Ballast Point Park, once known as Jules Verne Park, is one of the great, hidden spots in the Tampa area. This large park has a nice fishing pier, a gazebo, several picnic pavilions, a playground, a wonderful seafood restaurant called "A Taste of Boston," public restrooms, picnic tables, and more. From here you also have wonderful views of the Tampa skyline across the bay about six miles away.

A pretty park in south Tampa on Hillsborough Bay.
I always loved going down here during one of the summer thunderstorms and watching the lighting strike the bay. If you dont like rain there is even more that the park offers. You can go out on the pier and try your hand at fishing. This is where I learned at 10 years old. There is a small bait shop right before the pier. If you get hungry the is a snack bar, or bring your own food and barbecue. Grills are available.

For kids there is a playground and plenty of squirrles to feed.

For those traveling with a boat there is a boat launch too.
