Tampa International Airport, Tampa
Tampa International Airport has won many awards and much praise for its innovative design. It just opened a fancy new airside and more expansions are in the works, so the best just keeps getting better.
Speaking of expansions, both interstate highways into Tampa (I-4 and I-275) plus the Crosstown (aka Selmon) Expressway and the Veterans Expressway / Memorial Highway interchange are all currently being widened and rennovated, with several more years of uneven pavement and blinking barricades yet to go. Watch the orange cones!
For you rich slobs (or cruise takers), arrive by boat if you can. The trip under the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and up the bay is gorgeous.
If you are flying into the Tampa area you are in luck we have some of the highest rated airports in the world.

Another option is flying into the Orlando International Airport. This airport is approximately one and a half hours from Tampa but travel times may vary depending on your final Tampa destination and the traffic conditions in Orlando. Over the years I haven’t seen any differences between the flight prices between Tampa and Orlando. However, due to Disney Orlando has a nice selection of International flights and I often find better flight times and international connections to/from Orlando. This is especially true for flight to Africa.
Good choices for booking your flight into Tampa include:
More than 20 different airlines (commercial, seasonal and charter) service the Tampa International Airport (TPA), located just five miles west of downtown Tampa on the east shore of Tampa Bay. Direct and connecting flights are offered to Europe, Canada, the Caribbean and numerous destinations within the U.S.A.
The airport terminal is a large, world-class facility built in 1971 and operated by the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority. A wide selection of restaurants, shops, and ground transportation are available.

Tampa International Airport is a nice airport with 59 gates and 21 airlines moving 19 million passengers per year. Long term parking is $14 per day while short term parking is $1.25 each 30 minutes with the first hour free. The airport offers free wireless internet access.
Tampa International Airport is one of the best airport to get in and out of
Tampa traffic can be pretty nerve racking. Especially on Dale Mabry Blvd and I-275 during the morning and evenings. Use the Veterans Expressway (toll) for a quicker north south route on the west side of town.
Tampa international Airport, off Memorial Highway and Fla.60, 5 miles northwest of downtown Tampa, is the major gateway to this area. All of the major car rental firms have booths at or near the airport.

Fly--This picture was taken at a bar/restaurant very close to the Tampa airport...such a great way to wait for our flight!
Either rent a car for a day if you want to see a lot, or taxis are always available (though they get hard to come by around closing time!), or live life on the edge and get a lift home from someone you met in the club....
You can get here easily by car, bus, train or plane. We have a beautiful international airport. I disagree with some of the other reviews here about the airport. There are parking areas where you pay to park, but you pay when you leave. You can only stop and unload or load at the airport itself, otherwise you have to go to the parking lot. Is there something wrong with that. We also have a cruise ship port that has a lot of new shops, theater and an aquarium.
We have a public transit system, but it is a bus. Rent a car. That is the best way to get around town. Rent a convertible and enjoy our wonderful weather.
You can fly there to Tampa International Airport. But be warned, cause they cancel flights all the time and you may have to wait for a few extra hours. I've been late many times returning home because of delays and cancelled flights.
Automobiles are probably the best way to travel throughout the city. I've heard that they are trying to build a monorail system throughout the state sometime soon. This will cut down on traffic and be a big help to everyone.
We had a very pleasant experience with this company. they picked our group up at the airport on time and stayed in contact with us the entire time and the return trip was easy as well as they stayed in touch with us while on the cruise ship. very professional company, courteous, gave us bottled water, and were overall very friendly and helpful. We were very impressed with the company - www.tampaairporteliteshuttle.com - would definitely recommend to anyone who needs transportation in the Tampa area.
Tampa International Airport is one of very few airports (that I've been to at least) which offers free wi-fi internet.
I figured this was worthy of a tip since most airports make you buy a "pass" in order to access their internet.
So if you're looking for an airport to depart out of, or have a long layover in, Tampa would be a good one due to its free internet!
The best Taxi cab ride
I Love Cab Plus!!!!
For the first time I called Cab plus for a pick up to the Tampa airport, friendly lady took my order, the driver arrived 5 minute earlier, to my surprise the car was clean and comfortable. Friendly driver picked me up and got me to the Airport on time. I love this company; I will use this company again and again.
