Boat going through the Titusville Swing Bridge

As others have noted, most people get to Titusville by plane, bus or car. (I know there are train tracks through Titusville so it may also be possible to get there by train.) We come on our boat. Titusville has one of the best marinas on the Florida east coast. It is a municipal marina.

Once there, however there's very little local transportation other than a rental car or a taxi.

Pictured is the Max Brewer Swing Bridge on State Road 402 which connects the Kennedy Space Center and the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with mainland Titusville. This is a critical link both for road traffic and boat traffic in the ICW. The bridge is closed to boat traffic during operations at Cape Canaveral. The historic bridge was damaged by the 2003 hurricanes in Florida, but was back in operation by the fall of 2004. It is scheduled to be replaced by a high rise bridge, preserving as much of the old swing bridge as possible.

According to the Titusville webpage: AOf special note is the incorporation of Titusville in 1887 and the organization of a Board of Trade which was the forerunner of the present day Chamber of Commerce. Shortly after the turn of the century focus was on construction of schools, roads and a bridge across the Indian River to make it possible for easy access to Playalinda and Desoto Beaches.

The first bridge apparently was a hand cranked toll bridge. Pictures of this bridge are in the North Brevard Museum in downtown Historic Titusville.

There are several means to get to Titusville. Airplane, auto, bus, but the most practical is by auto.
While there, and automobile is a necessity.

The way to get around the Space Center is by Bus. If you plan a trip to the Moon check out how to unload the luner Rover from the Lunar Module.
