Tipping

by xCatMx

You must tip when in Florida, but just watch some restaurants add the tip onto the total of the bill. Many times I gave them extra money because I never noticed they already added the tip to the receipt! Always check your receipt, if they have not added the tip on you MUST tip!

You can also get tickets to five parks and go as often as you like over 21 days. Have a picnic in a National park.

Tourist Beware

by KimberlyAnn

There are plenty of shops and activities that are just aimed at tourists. Some of these can be good places to purchase souvenirs, postcards, or have a good time, however some are just a waste of time and money. Most are pretty easy to spot, however. Use common sense. If it looks like a trap, and the locals or respected publications have not recommended it, it is probably a trap. If the license plates in the parking lot are all out of state cars, look carefully before spending your moneyUnless you want to get really wet, don’t sit too close to the front at the Orcas (killer whales) show in SeaWorld. The whales make a number ofhuge splashes! If it is crowded and you chose a seat near the front, then change your mind after the first splash, you may find yourself trapped in your seating location. Some people love to be splashed by the whales, and even come prepared with raincoats or ponchos....

Busch gardens - kids think they want it

by vickiv2

On our trip to Florida, I thought we'd better take our older school-aged child to a theme park - and I must say right now that theme parks aren't really our thing. Just so you know parents - she enjoyed the natural settings like the everglades and shelling on Sanibel way more. Even though we were there on off season the lineups were tiresome and the people attending were the rudest we saw in all of Florida. Sure, the rides are ok, the scenery was nice, and the show we saw was good. Note - my 12 year old was terrified by one of the rollercoasters - the really big one that doesn't do a drop. We were really hot, some water fountains would have been nice - we spent out 30.00 on water in one day. The most fun we had was feeding the little birds nectar - our kids could have spent the whole day there. Next best was the tidal wave ride. Bring your own water bottle and try for refills - drinks...

Downtown Key West

by Astrobuck

Definate tourist trap. EVERYWHERE there are T-shirt shops, souveneir stalls, art galleries, and bars. It's really nice to go if you want to get things for people to do a little bit of early Christmas shopping.Keep one thing in mind...parking is an absolute bear, so if you are unable to find a place to park, there are optional scooter rental places throughout the town. Look at everything. Seriously. What costs one thing, will cost totally different somewhere else, even if it is as close as next door. Shop around. I found a place to get 4 T-shirts for as little as $10 US. Go to a few of the museums and art galleries around. It gets hot here, so try to do whatever you can to stay cool.

Wet-N-Wild

by Jim&Ivy_Garland

What a joke! We waited in line for 2 hours on one particular water ride. The conveyor belt to bring the tubes to the top kept malfunctioning! They should have shut the ride down, and not allow people to stand in line for so long! They could have at least offered free sodas/water for people waiting in line. The Operations Manager admitted that this problem has been on-going, and they don't know how to fix it. No apology, no concession, just an adminition that management doesn't know what it is doing!STAY AWAY FROM THIS TOURIST TRAP! Bring bottled water. Eat before going. Rent a locker for the day.The "Lazy River" was pretty fun, but be prepared to rent a tube. Go swimming at your hotel's pool!

Disney is awesome but full of traps

by Misty1975

One big one is the hotels/resorts. ALL of the hotels have transportation back and forth to the park. Get online and get a hotel from hotels.com or whatever. My resort was $85 a night online. To walk in and get a room is almost unheard of, but it would have cost me $175 a night for 4 people. Don't buy the souvenirs INSIDE Disney, they sell the same EXACT crap in about 1000 different stores. Don't buy tickets at the gate, they sell em everywhere, its a lot cheaper. The alternative is buying merchandise in the "outer" stores. One shirt inside Disney was $30 the SAME exact shirt outside Disney was $15.

Avoid the queue before you even get in

by davesut

At the entrance to each park there will be a few of the disney characters hanging about. Magic Kingdom was definately the worst for this with lots of people queuing before they have even got into the park proper. Don't get your photos here, go inside the park as there will be other opportunities later. Can you avoid the photo opprotunities altogether? Good luck.
