We think you will definately enjoy Florida much more with your own car or a rental. It is a big state, and with all of the beaches the Florida has to offer, you must have a car to see sights at your pace.

The buses are a great and cheap way of getting around. In Fort Lauderdale you pay $1 for any distance in the area one way or you can pay $2.50 for an all day pass. Get a time table and route map from a bus driver or from your hotel, they are really easy to follow and go regularly. All the buses have numbers so it is easy to find the one you want for a certain route. The buses except $1notes or change. The drivers are usually very helpful and also the bus has a computer on board that will tell you when the next stop is comng up and where you are on the route. The buses can be a little cold sometimes because of the air conditioning. In Miami Beach the buses cost $1.25. so make sure when you get on that you have some small coins as they don't give change.Fort LauderdaleBroward County Transit 3201 W. Copans Road Pompano Beach, FL 33069 (954) 357-8364

Taxis are expensive in Florida, soon as you get in the taxi it cost you ?1.25 and it works out at around $2 to $3 a mile, and as some of the places that you want to visit could be at least 5 to 6 miles away it leaves a hole in your pocket. There are also limo's that you can hire but they are twice as much and more.

Well, how to get to Florida would probably depend on where you are from. If you come from Europe, I do not recommend swimming! Ok, bad joke! I like Tampa Airport a lot, but I have never used any of the others so I can't advice you on that one.You cannot travel in Florida without a car. In Orlando is a sort of bus service running on International Drive, but I wouldn't like to rely on it. If your hotel offers shuttle service to and from the themeparks, you could try to be there without a car. Outside Orlando, i think it is impossible!

If you are interested in renting a car to tour about in then try out Budget..Orlando Area:(1) ORLANDO INT`L AIRPORT8855 Casa Verde RdOrlando, FL 32827Tel: 407-850-6787.(2) WEST COLONIAL2195 W.Colonial Dr.Orlando, FL 32819Tel: as #1.(3) NORTH ORLANDO/PINE HILLS5086 W. If you go by car contact AAA or CAA for the shortest route not scenic unless you have lots of time. Don't leave a lot of stuff in view in your car at motels. Be sure to park where it is well lighted. Some friends tried to save by using a cheap motel on the trip to Florida and had their car emptied of the stuff they left in the car.You can come by Air . Most airlines will get you there. They even have special prices for some loations such as ORLANDO.We came by car and used our car all the time to travel around the city. Daytona is actuially several towns, Daytona, Daytona Beach Shores Port orange and Ponce Inlet. They all overlap into one big city. Fly into Daytona airport.

Best way to get to the Keys is to fly into Miami or Fort Lauderdale and rent a car, then drive the causeway to the Keys. Each Key is unique, with its own appeal, so I prefer to drive and see it all rather than fly in to Key West or Marathon airport and miss the total experience!
Auto or motorcycle. Watch out for confused tourist drivers, old ladies driving 20 mph under the speed limit, any old men with hats, and young kids with their Mustangs and highpowered pickups. Taxis can be expensive. Price shop for car rentals (lots of special deals). Inadequate or lack of public transportation. Good roads everywhere with decent signage. Some major roads will have signs warning which major intersection is just ahead. Try not to walk along the roads--Florida is dangerous for pedestrians (lack of sidewalks). Pinellas County (Clearwater/St. Petersburg) is the most dangerous county in the US for pedestrians because many major streets and roads have no sidewalks. Most drivers do NOT use their directional signals when they change lanes or when making turns. So they'll cut you off if there's any room between you and the vehicle in front--be warned!! Bikers don't wear helmets or...
Overseas visitors will generally fly into Orlando, Miami, or increasingly Ft. Lauderdale. The drive to Florida from the northeast is still a fun trip the first few times. You really need a car in Florida as you do in most states. The US is not noted for mass transit. The plus side is rentals and fuel are very inexpensive. Locally, try and enjoy boat travel, be it motorized or better still, self propelled, like a canoe or kayak.

Book a fly-drive. Getting anywhere by airplane and then pick up your rental-car.Car is a holy cow in the U.S. Public transport is very poor and also not the way you want to get around. Petrol is shamingly cheap (lesson nr.1: how to ruin nature) and is thus not keeping you back on the number of miles you drive. Watch the possible drop-off charge, which can be very high.
