    Beach access

This seemed to be one of the main beach accesses for Vero Beach. The parking lot was a nice size, but what really struck me was the beautiful park and picnic area set up. It was so clean and had plenty of picnic tables and grills. Perfect to come off the beach grab a bite to eat from the cooler in your car and go sit in the shade and eat.

    pelican island

pelican island national wildlife refuge was created by in 1903 by president theodore roosevelt. pelican island national wildlife refuge is the first national refuge in the united states and the basis for the national wildlife refuge system. paul krogel, an early sebastion homesteader, was concerned about the hunting of egrets, herons, and pelicans for their feathers. during that time bird feathers were in fashion as a decoration for woman's hats. kroegel became pelican island's first game warden. today thanks to the efforts of kroegel and roosevelt you can visit an unspoiled section of the indian river and view it's diverse wildlife. the refuge offers hiking trails and wildlife viewing areas.

    malarty treasure museum

the mclarty treasure museum is located on the south end of the sabastian inlet state park. in 1715 a large fleet of spanish ships were sunk during a hurricane. these ships were carrying gold and silver mined in mexico and south america bound for spain. gold and silver artifacts have washed up on florida beaches from cape canaveral to stuart ever since. the mclarty museum has an interesting collection of spanish treasure and other artifacts from that doomed fleet.

    Sea Turtle Territory

    by cet128 Written Jul 7, 2003

I have not ever seen any sea turtles but supposedly they lay their eggs on the beaches in this area. If you come at the right time I suppose you could see them hatch. Don't count on getting too close though because the laws protect the animals and the nest sites.

    Experience Florida wildlife & nature

Guided, safe tours of the Everglades marshlands
    4 more images

I experienced the Marshlands of Indian River County 20 minutes west of Vero Beach with the best airboat tour I've ever had in Florida.

Capt. Bob's Original Talking Tour is an unforgettable boating trip that appeals to both kids and adults alike. The boat trip is about one hour and fully narrated and every passenger gets headphones that allow talking to Capt. Bob and everyone on-board. And feel free to ask questions too.

Capt. Bob himself provides an informative explanation of birds, plants, fish, alligators and the local area habitat and all on a 2010 custom Diamondback Airboat, with seating for 10.

The boat has the tallest front seat of any tour boat, and all riders have a great stadium view while traveling at speeds of up to 45 miles per hour over the waters

You will see areas that ordinary boat tours can’t access and see exotic birds, plants, turtles and the wild Florida alligators in their own natural environment

I would highly recommend the 1st tour of the morning before the sunrise so that you can more likely see all the wildlife and nature before the heat of the sun strikes.

The airboat trip is fun, exciting, educational & entertaining and looks at the marshlands not normally seen by the public.

NOTE: Fully Coast Guard Approved – Captain Bob is licensed by the United States Coast Guard, insured and has years of experience.

    Vero Beach Florida

Vero Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I've seen on the east coast. The water is perfect and clear with nice waves. The beaches have lifeguards on duty and seemed pretty quiet and peaceful.
