paynes creek historic state park is located four miles north of wauchula off of US 17 in the town of bowling green. the paynes creek state park is on the site of fort chokonikla, a second seminole war era fort. the site of fort chokonikla is listed on the national register of historic places. paynes creek state park also offers nature trails, and fishing and canoeing on paynes creek. for those interested in old florida history and nature paynes creek state park is worth a visit in north hardee county.

wauchula's downtown historic district has a nice collection of historic buildings, restaurants, and shops. the wauchula historic district is worth a look when traveling on US 17 in hardee county.

the albert carlton estate is an excellent example of a turn of the 20 th century florida grove house. the carlton estate was built in 1903 and is listed on the national register of historic places.

the wauchula depot was built in 1886 by the florida southern railway. the depot is one of the oldest structures in downtown wauchula.
