    Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex

2 1/2 year old seaturtle at Gumbo Limbo

Two seconds from Red Reef Park in Boca Raton (just between the ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway nestled in the native trees sits Gumbo Limbo. If you're into sealife, fauna and flora- go here! There is a $3 suggested donation to get in.

Head to the back of the entrance to witness four saltwater pools chock full of cool sealife... i.e. nurse sharks, hammerhead sharks, sting rays, horseshoe crabs, seaturtles, eels, starfish, puffer fish, etc. etc. There are volunteers surrounding these pools happy to answer any questions you might have about the animals. I think we stayed there fascinated by the beautiful little seaturtles for atleast an hour. This is a must-see!

There are two nature trails, one takes you along a boardwalk through a natural South Florida hammock and mangrove forest. Half way down the trail there is a cool 40-foot high wooden observation tower, climb up its many steps for a beautiful view of the Atlantic on one side, and the Intracoastal Waterway on the other. The other nature trail is a foot path.

There is also a small butterfly garden, classrooms/, tons of examples of native plant life and a cute little gift shop.

Check out one of my West Palm Beach albums for more pics from Gumbo Limbo and closeby Red Reef Park.

A beautiful taste of Japan in Palm Beach County....
This place is spectacular. Upon your arrival I suggest you watch the introductory movie, explore the gallery with a permanent collection and visiting exhibits, then wander through their beautiful Japanese gardens and finish with a delicious lunch at their patio restaurant, The Cornell Cafe overlooking the pond.

I highly recommend the Edamame to start and the Asian Eggplant with Garlic Sauce for your entreƩ. They also have a nice sushi selection.

Lastly stop in their gift shop for some beautiful Japanese souvenirs & wares.

    Atlantic Ave & Delray Beach

by sunlovey Written Feb 7, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Walking down the street past Sazios

This is actually a Delray Beach tip, hidden in the West Palm section, but like I said, all the towns run together, so oh well!

Take I95 south to Atlantic Ave. and head east, you'll go through a slightly sketchy area first but then you'll hit the ultra-chic, fun, charming area chock full of great boutiques, tasty restaurants with outdoor seating, fun bars, dance clubs, ice cream shops, etc. There are a couple of hotels on Atlantic Ave.- The Colony & The Marriott, so you can stay right on this great little street if you wish.

Some Hightlights (which i hope to expand upon eventually):

Sazio- for great Italian (more to come)
Blue Anchor- for drinks (a traditional English pub transported from England brick by brick to Delray Beach)
City Limits- for dancing beneath the stars to kinda cheesey but fun music and cold drinks
Splendid Blendeds- for DELICIOUS food in an unpretentious setting
Delux- for a clubby dance scene and martinis

If you keep heading east on Atlantic Ave. you eventually end up at Delray Beach which is vast, fun and lively. You can rent jet skis and other water related items, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. People of all ages frequent this beach, families, singles, everyone.

Red Reef Park Beach & Picnic

by sunlovey Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Red Reef Park Beach, Boca Raton

Red Reef Park consists of a beautiful beach, playground, shady picnic area and artificial reef (created from limestone).

It's not that crowded, the sand is nice, there are lifeguards, there are showers to shower off after your swim, there are clean bathrooms, a cool boardwalk along the ocean for beautiful ocean views.

We had a lovely picnic here and a beautiful walk down the beach. The water was a gorgeous shade of blue.

Admission to the park is $16 per carload on weekdays, $18 per carload on weekends. And it's worth it for such nice facilities and such a well-kept beach area.

See my Album on my West Palm Page for more pics of Red Reef Park.

    Norton Museum of Art

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The museum, picture from their Website

This place is a sparkling little gem in the heart of Palm Beach county if you're into art.... the permanent collection houses pieces by the likes of Miro, Gauguin, Monet, O'Keefe, Mattise, Picasso, Pollack...

The special exhibitions are always fantastic- we've seen works by Rodin, Mucha & Chihuly to name a few. Picturing French Style Three Hundred Years of Art and Fashion was an incredibly cool exhibit too...

The museum is located in downtown West Palm, it's a beautiful building seconds away from the Intracoastal Waterway. There is a nice cafe and gift shop also.

General admission is $8. This not including special exhibitions.
