NOTE - Due to Hurricane IVAN, Johnson's Beach is closed. The roads haven been washed away.
If you are a beach person, you will love Johnson's Beach. Johnson's Beach is located on the Gulf of Mexico. It is an island that has a bay on one side and the Gulf on the other. It cost's 8 bux for a pass (the pass lasts for approximately 3 days). They have a main parking facility with a lifeguard. This main facility has bathrooms as well as several covered picnic areas. You can drive down a little ways and find one of serveral beach walkways. The walkways provide passage to an almost isolated beach area. It is great for those that want to stay away from a crowded beach.
The FloraBama Lounge is located on the Gulf of Mexico right on the Florida and Alabama Line. This uniquely built lounge started off as a single room package store and has been added on (resembles a Jamacian Home) over the years. As high rise condo's have bought out the land around the "Bama" (as the locals refer to it), the bar still stands. There is a unique flavor of patrons that range from bikers to businessmen. It's also a spring break haven for college students.
They have 3 stages which provide live music of several types of genre - Country, rock and roll, and Reggae.
Jimmy Buffet dropped by and played for the patrons unannounced one holiday weekend. There is no telling who'll you'll find.
For those who may completely lose themselves and unintentionally stay until closing, there is a waffle house (aweful waffle) right accross the road that's open all night.
Dress Code: Dress code may very. It's not suprising to see Navy officers in full uniform, well dressed well to do people, and half dressed bikini clad women (who forgot to go home to change after sun bathing all day behind the Bama) at midnight on any given weekend during the Summer.
