    Red Lobster: Local Chain Eating

by grandmaR Updated Apr 23, 2012

The first night we had dinner at the Red Lobster. When we stay at the Hampton Inns (which don't have dining rooms) we usually walk to some place close. The Red Lobster was in the next block

Favorite Dish: I love lobster and it is fairly cheap at Red Lobster and it's always on the menu there. I took a lot of photos of the menus, but I don't know for sure what we had at this place.

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar: It's "Neighborhood..." it is country-wide

by grandmaR Written Apr 23, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The original restaurant opened in Atlanta was T.J. Applebee's Rx for Edibles & Elixirs. It was sold to W.R. Grace and the name changed to Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar.

Favorite Dish: I had the cheese quesadilla appetizer and Bob had a hamburger. We both had dessert. Bob just had a sundae and I had cinnamon sticks and ice cream.

Harry's Old Place: Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover

by KiKitC Written Mar 28, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Not far from Dad's place in Winter Haven, there is what looks like a smallish restaurant, whose parking lot always seemed full. And for good reason.

Harry's offers the best in fresh, local seafood, prepared exquisetly. Be prepared to wait...that's my only warning. While we were waiting, we spoke with some locals that visit Harry's often. "Everything's fantastic" is how they described the menu.

The menu is impressive, with so many mouth watering preparations, but prepare yourself for the "Catches of the Day." You can get your choice prepared any way you wish...

Their prices are higher than other restaurants, but the food is also more upscale.

Favorite Dish: Gordie ordered the Yellowfin Snapper with garlic butter...delicious. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with garlic butter...OMG. Melt in your mouth goodness. One of the best seafood dishes I have EVER had.

For appetizers, we ordered escargot (one of my favorites) and catfish fingers. I was disappointed with the escargot, but this is a fish house, not a French Restaurant. The catfish fingers were down-home good!

New restaurant just opened on the northwest side of Winter Haven. Clean, food was good & fresh & adequate selection. Great selection of sushi if that is your "thing!" Prices are very, very reasonable.

  • Gary's Oyster House: Known for raw oysters

by Hoosierustraveler Written Apr 2, 2007

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Gary's has been around for a long time & is famous for raw oysters. Has specials certain nights of the week on 1/2 & dozen oysters. Can eat 'em by the bucket at the bar or have them served to your table. He has "early bird" specials most nights which are very reasonable.

Favorite Dish: Raw oysters. Very fresh and yummy.

  • Cherry Pocket restaurant: Great "old Florida" atmosphere

by Hoosierustraveler Written Apr 2, 2007

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Situated in a fishing camp, waayyyy out in the "country" thru the orange groves. Restaurant is placed right at the dock, at the lake. This is one of the few remaining with an "old Florida" feel to it. Good food and quite a variety.

Favorite Dish: Several grouper dishes have assorted seafood (crab, scallops, etc.) on top with a sauce. Blackened items are available. All good!!
