When visiting Legoland be sure to rid the "Island in the Sky" to get a 360-degree panoramic view of the park, surrounding lakes, Downtown Winter Haven, and even the Bok Tower in nearby Lake Wales. Island in the Sky is a rotating platform that is lifted high into the sky by a giant mechanical arm. Be advised, however, that it can get awfully windy...

Tired of the lines at Disney, we ventured out to Cypress Gardens, about a half hour outside of Disney. We got there at 10am and found a wonderfully uncrowded place! The entire day we never waited for rides. Some rides we stayed on 2 and 3 times. This place is not for big thrill seekers or teenagers. Only a couple of the rides could be considered...

  • It's "Neighborhood..." it is...

The original restaurant opened in Atlanta was T.J. Applebee's Rx for Edibles & Elixirs. It was sold to W.R. Grace and the name changed to Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. I had the cheese quesadilla appetizer and Bob had a hamburger. We both had dessert. Bob just had a sundae and I had cinnamon sticks and ice cream.

  • Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover

Not far from Dad's place in Winter Haven, there is what looks like a smallish restaurant, whose parking lot always seemed full. And for good reason. Harry's offers the best in fresh, local seafood, prepared exquisetly. Be prepared to wait...that's my only warning. While we were waiting, we spoke with some locals that visit Harry's often....

Gary's has been around for a long time & is famous for raw oysters. Has specials certain nights of the week on 1/2 & dozen oysters. Can eat 'em by the bucket at the bar or have them served to your table. He has "early bird" specials most nights which are very reasonable. Raw oysters. Very fresh and yummy.

Winter Haven Nightlife

  • Let the 'z' be the big hint, this place...

Sooo... if you happen to be in Winter Haven, FL and in need of a night out on the town, be a tad weary if someone suggests you check out Bananaz. UNLESS you're doing a study on strange characters grinding in the night in a badly lit, claustrophobic setting that feels like an mega double-wide trailer. Oh, oh, oh! and if you like to reek like hell of...

Ah, Tanners... in it's early stages it was oh so cool, I couldn't believe it. A small little bar with Chicago brick walls, a good wine list and a dj spinning stuff you would never hear in this neck of the woods in FLorida. But, Tanners has grown into something different. Not entirely bad, no, not at all, just different. And if you're in Winter...
