    red fox lounge: great music

    by doug48 Updated Feb 14, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

the red fox lounge is located in the mount vernon motel in winter park. it is one of the most unique entertainment venues in central florida. the red fox has hosted the mark and lorna show for the last 20 years. mark and lorna sing songs from the 1940's through the 1970's. the crowd is a mixture of young and elderly people. if you like easy listening music this is a must stop in central florida. mark and lorna perform tues through sat 8:00pm to closing. a fun and unique show to listen to. an update, sadly mark wayne died 2/13/2012. mark was a las vegas performer in the 1960's and was a friend of the "rat pack". mark moved to florida in the 1970's and he and his wife lorna have performed nightly at the red fox lounge since 1991. mark's show was the inspiration for the saturday night live skit "the culps". this central florida entertainment personality will be greatly missed.

Ballard and Corum: hidden gem NOW CLOSED

by shohman Updated Jan 21, 2010

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Update: both Ballard and Corum and Redlight, Redlight have sadly closed

Update: They changed owners and their name (to Redlight,Redlight) and became one of the most respected bars in the Orlando area, serving a huge selection of REAL beer (no Bud Light here ) and having regular events. Well, The City of Winter Park would have none of this and refused to extend there operating hours, forcing the bar to relocate to another location. Way to go, WP...you truly have a stick up your arse.

Ballard and Corum is a small hole in the wall located over a bakery. I discovered the place one night while walking down the street, I heard an acoustic guitar and followed the steps into a tiny, but very hip bar. 30 people max could fit here but they do everything right. A fine choice of beer and wine, cool music and a friendly bartender. This place is worth seeking out as even most of my friends who are local have never heard of this gem.

Dress Code: come as you are.

the wine room: for the connoisseur

    by doug48 Written Dec 9, 2009

the wine room is an interesting place to visit on park ave. in downtown winter park. to start you purchase a wine room "debit" card which gives you access to their automated wine pouring machines. the wine room has a number of kiosks where you can select a one ounce glass of wine to sample. if you find a sample you like you can purchase a bottle from their store. the wine room caters to wine connoisseurs and the selections are quite pricey. for people like me they also have a small bar were you can buy a draught beer. the wine room was recently featured on samantha brown's great weekends travel channel show. if you are into fine wine the wine room should not be missed when in the orlando area.

If you have ever seen the film Swingers and love the part when they visit the seedy lounge with the man and woman singing with a synthesizer, you will love the Red Fox Lounge. Mark and Lorna are your hosts and they will give you an endearing show to remember.
