Appling Things to Do
Wildwood Park is owned by Columbia County. It was formed as a park on Clarks Hill Lake aka Lake Thurmond from the Thurmond Dam on the Savannah River between Gerogia and South Carolina.
There are good sandy beaches for swimming, trails for hiking, places for volley-ball,
lots of grills and shelters, plenty of parking, toilets, camp-sites, boat ramps and well maintained tables.
This is a great place for family outings.
The cost is $2 per car.
Rental cabins are also available at this county park.Related to:

Appling Off The Beaten Path
Lake Springs is about 6 miles south of Appling at Thurmond Lake.
It is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers and has very nice public areas for picnics and boat ramps for boating.
Lake Springs is open April 2 through September 29th. The early closing date is a pity because this area of Georgia is really pleasant in October and November.
The entrance fee is $4 per vehicle. If you have National Park Pass or Golden Pass you can be admitted for $2 per vehicle.
