Be open minded. Athens (downtown) has great places to eat and shop. Just keep in mind, things tend to have a 'twist'.
The people are the best part about this town. Because of the mix between the undergrads, grad students, professors, working class, and 'townies', Athens not only has several unique ethnic cultures, but intellectual as well. So even if you don't like the guy playing his guitar at 3 in the morning, just appreciate that he, the hot dog guy, and so many others are what make this town.

For those music fans out there - some internationally famous bands come from Athens. Think of REM and B'52. Also, the famous actress KIM BASINGER grew up in Athens!!!
