We are a big city that spralls out to the suburbs, so a car is probably a necessity for most, although there are lots of folk who take Marta every day, so it can't be too hard. If you can get an idea in your head about the different neighborhoods, (Buckhead, Midtown, Downtown, etc) then you should be fine getting yourself around just about anywhere. Sites such as Mapquest can get you from point A to point B, and most of us are pretty friendly so just stop and ask someone for directions if necessary.
Hiways have some pretty fast drivers, so drive accordingly, staying to the right unless passing.
Driving in Atlanta is not easy, especially because all the streets seemed to be named Peachtree. Therefore, when giving directions people tend to rely on landmarks to get around. In Marietta, this is one of those landmarks. It is the big chicken and it should not be missed!
It is located at:
1970 N. Cobb Parkway
Marietta, GA
The speed limit in and around Atlanta is 55 miles per hour. But in Atlanta everyone goes about 65 except in the left lane on the intestates. There the average speed is 80 miles an hour. So if you are unsure where you are and which exit you need to take stay out of the left lane because you WILL have problems with road rage drivers.
Atlanta is a city where everything is spread out. You will need a way to travel. I recommend you that you rent a car if you are going to live outside of the town centre.
