For the Nascar fans, and even those who don't have an ounce of interest like myself, going to the race is a fun event. The Atlanta Motor Speedway is located about 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta in the Locust Grove/ McDonough area (where I grew up.) Traffic can get very bad on 75 and the roads leading the the speedway so prepare ahead of time. There are plenty of fun activities before the race for all ages so plan on going to the speedway with plenty of time before the race.

We visited Hampton - about 20 to 25 minutes south of downtown Atlanta. We came across the Speedway. It is amazing, this whole huge track which is used for NASCAR twice a year - a race in March and another in October. The locals hate the speedway because during race weeks, race fans cause traffic tieups, and fill every hotel and restaurant for miles around.

NASCAR stock car racing is a great sport with really fast cars. AMS doesn't run restrictor plates, so the speeds at this track are the highest for stock cars in the nation.

Even if your not a fan of racing if you get a chance see this one. It is the fastest track you have ever been to. The races are in March and October so the weather will usually be perfect.
