State Capitol Building by cobrioc Thousands of fascinating and moving stories tell the history of Atlanta. Some are triumphant. Some are tragic. And they are all here at the Atlanta History Center. State Capitol by MarvintheMartian Usual type of State Capitol building. Pretty centre in Atlanta. The building has an impressive dome and various statues around the building. I can't comment on the inside as they were closed when I visited - not that the signs were indicating that! The website below gives a good idea of everything to do with this building. Leave a Comment Directions: See the website below - however it's walking distance from the Underground Center carparks.

The capitol building grounds appears to be undergoing restoration as fencing prevented me from visiting the statues. However, I did manage to take these shots of the capitol dome and building facade. The link below provides a nice summary of the history behind the capitol building. Leave a Comment

by Ewingjr98 Constructed from 1884 to 1889, the Georgia State Capitol building is one of Atlanta's most distinctive landmarks. It was designed following the Civil War as the capital of the New South and designed after the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC. The golden dome is topped by a statue of Freedom holding a lantern and sword. Leave a Comment

by cvilla007 The Georgia State Capital building was built in 1889. Its dome is covered in Georgia gold leaf. The building houses a Georgia Hall of Fame, including exhibits of the Georgian signers of the Declaration of Independence and other notable people, and a museum of Science and Industry. Its architecture is neo-classical. Leave a Comment
