Have lunch at Cutie Pie's in Evans
Cutie Pie's is located in Evans at 4274 Washington Road in the Publix Shopping Center. This is a great little cafe to enjoy a quick lunch or a to-go lunch.
We had their Greek Pizza and it split it.
There was plenty for two!

The Butt Bridge - An Augusta Hero on the Titanic
There is a bridge in Augusta that crosses the Augusta Canal called The Butt Bridge. It is a monument and memorial to Archibald (Archie) Butt. Archie Butt was born in Augusta on September 26, 1866, the son of a wealthy and prominent family he went on to graduate from The University of the South.
Archie Butt was a personal aide to President Theodore Roosevelt and when William Howard Taft became president he again assumed the role of aide to the President.
Before the upcoming Presidential campaign of 1912 he took a trip to Europe, returning home on the Titanic.
Major Butt was a hero in every way, assisting women and children into the lifeboats.
Memorial services were held in Augusta, Ga on May 2nd. President Taft was the honored speaker at the serivces, which was attended by over 1500 guests. President Taft choked with tears as he eulogized his dear friend and personal aide.
There is a fountain near the White House in his honor , a Memorial Marker at Arlington National Cemetery and a bridge in Augusta, Ga.
This bridge is an extension of 15th Street and crosses the Augusta Canal to Broad Street.
On the bronze engraving is a profile of Archibald Butt.
The Butt Bridge - A tribute to a Titanic Hero
There are four lions on the bridge. They are on each side of the Butt Bridge, and at each end. It was difficult to take a picture of the bridge with a digital camera. I'm not a picture-taking person.
I have a personal interest in this particular landmark because my grandfather drove a White Steamer for President Howard Taft when he was the President elect in 1909.
There is a picture of my grandfather driving President Taft in the Steamer crossing the Savannah on Sand Bar Ferry in 1909 on the wall in the Beech Island Agricultural Club.
When I discovered Archie Butt's history I realized that President Taft probably came to Augusta to see and visit his friend and personal aide. I am sure my grandfather must have known or met Archie Butt also.

Evans, Ga. a community in adjacent Columbia County has been named as Money Magazine's choice for #32 in the United States for "hot places to live". I think sometimes in the summer this could be taken literally.

Drive across the Butt Bridge
Who knows how many people drive across the bridge everyday and don't even realize that Augusta has it's own tribute to the sinking of the Titanic.
Very charming little southern town with wonderful southern mansions which you can tour at Christmas and in the spring. Be sure to stay at the Fitzpatrick Hotel when you visit.
