the atlantic and gulf railroad depot was built in 1857. the constuction of the railroad depot was the catalyst for the founding of the town of blackshear. today the atlantic and gulf depot is home to the pierce county historical society museum. the museum has an interesting collection of artifacts and relics relating to the civil war and the history of pierce county. the atlantic and gulf depot is a good first stop on a visit to blackshear. the atlantic and gulf railroad depot is listed on the national register of historic places.

blackshear has a very nice downtown historic district with a collection of shops, restaurants, and historic buildings. for those interested in architecture downtown blackshear is worth a visit in southeast georgia.
