This is a true piece of Americana-The General Store. It's run by a real local and has all kinds of goodies but it's the atmosphere that is the real star.
What to buy: It's a gas station and we got some local beef jerky boiled peanuts. Evidently there are cabins in the works too. It's a shame they don't stock beer!
This picturesque stone building was completed in 1937 which just so happens to be when the Appalachian Trail come into existence making it the oldest building on the trail. It houses not only a great outdoors store stocking many backpacker needs but also a hostel with shower for up to 16 guests.
What to buy: If you're heading north what you forgot. If you're heading south, a shower.
What to pay: In either case, they are priceless.
