This is a pleasant little side trip that takes only a short time (maybe an hour) starting from Clayton, Georgia. Take US 76 west. Turn right (north) on Persimmon Rd. Turn left on Tallulah River Rd. There is a campground, Tallulah River. The paved road ends here. Continue to follow the gravel road past two more campgrounds (Tate Branch and Sandy Bottom) to reach Tate City.
It would be a good idea to stop by the Clayton Visitor Center (on US 441) to get a map of Rabun County to make navigating easier.
Along the way, the scenery is lovely as you follow the Tallulah River upstream.
