    Festhalle: Octoberfest

by thead Updated Oct 18, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Don't miss Helen's Octoberfest.

One of the main reasons for our village's success is Octoberfest, which begins the second weekend in Sept and continues for two months with a celebration that includes Bavarian music, oompa bands, bratwurst, beer and plenty of polkas. Seems like the official dance of Helen should be the polka or the chicken dance. Check out the city's official website (www.helenga.org), it plays continuous polka music and sometimes the chicken dance. You can also see this year's Octoberfest schedule on their website.

The main Octoberfest party is at the city's Festhalle located on the back streets of town. There are live bands, beer drinking and partying going on all over town and most of the resturants.

Octoberfest is one of the main reasons that Helen is the third largest tourist attraction in Georgia.

Combine Octoberfest with the beautiful fall leaves in the mountains and you have one great vacation.

Cabin in the mountains: Enjoy time with your Loved Ones

    Paul and Eva

My advice would be to go out and have a great dinner, come back to your cabin and maybe get in the hot tub. Then enjoy your spouse or children by spending time together. Light the fire, fix a drink or a cup of coffee! The rest is up to you!

Paul's is a restruant / bar / nightclub located right in downtown Helen. It is Helen's local meatmarket. In years past you would consider it a Honky Tonk, but the total county flair is giving way to newer (and louder) music.

If you want to dance the night away, this is the place. If you are looking for companionship, this might be the place. If more of you beautiful women out there read this and show up, it would be great!

Dress Code: Cowboy hat and boots are not required, but you will see many.

King Ludwig's Beer Garden: King Ludwig's Bier Garden

Tony and I was in Helen, Ga on Saturday April 5, 2014 and we enjoyed the Bier Garden at King Ludwig's which is located in the front part of Helen Square.
They were playing loud music, country not German Oompa but it was good music.
There is one opening where they were asking for ID, but the other opening was wide open so No one was being stopped or showing ID..children were running around in the Bier garden..NO my liking...but hey these tourist are on vacation, drinking, dancing playing corn hole and NOT WATCHING their kids...lol !!!!
Tony ordered a King Ludwig Dunkel dark bier...he liked it a lot..but he said the Warsheimer Dunkel he had upstairs was much better to his taste buds.
He paid $5 with tip and taxes.
I enjoyed the music..took a few sips of his german bier and stopped into a few of the shops on the sidewalk in the square opening area.
    Very nice and enjoyable...
