There is a $3.00 parking fee for entrance to Jekyll Island which you will have to pay if you rent a car to get from the airport to the island. It is less than a half hour's drive from the Brunswick airport to the island. I thought it sounded as if this was a way to have income from a toll bridge. jackievillani wrote me and said "Jekyll Island is a state park (owned by the state of Georgia). The fee that you mentioned is charged at ALL Georgia state owned parks----even if they are just a day park. It is charged for the upkeep of the various state parks and to pay the personnel required to keep the parks clean....It is just a law in Georgia." In that case, I don't know why they call it a parking fee, or why you have to pay it if you rent a car on the island to go off the island. Why not just call it an entrance fee? Leave a Comment

Dune protection by tpangelinan Please be careful not to walk on the dune, they are protected and you can get a fine, so please use the very nice wide beach access that the island provides. Thanks for you support. Leave a Comment

Strong currents by tpangelinan There is a sandbar that goes out about a 1/4 to a 1/2 mile from the beach, many people like to shell there, so be careful the tide can cover the sandbar by 10 feet with very strong currents. Leave a Comment

As soon as you check into your hotel - turn on the TV to the Jekyll cable station "community calendar" and wait for the tide chart to come up. It is more accurate than the ones in the papers and beware...the tide comes in fast and goes out slow...if you plan on spending time on the beach - this will be important to you - High tide = no beach. Low Tide = lots of sand for a good 5-6 hours! Other Contact: Jekyll Island Comcast Cable TV

Your money is better spent elsewhere - trust me. This food and service is the worst we've experienced in years!

Have you checked the weather? by tatyanap Although it's not a real danger, I recommend checking the weather before making reservations. If your goal is to get a nice tan, your vacation may be ruined by a rainy day. Showers are frequent, especially in May. Go to www.weather.com and check the weather. Of course, you know that weather is rather unpredictable. Still, it doesn't hurt to check. Leave a Comment

We were told that no photography was allowed inside of the Jekyll Island Club, so I opted not to take the tour. Instead I photographed some of the scenes from the FREE film that is shown in the visitor's center. Leave a Comment
