catoosa county courthouse

the catoosa county courthouse was built in 1939 in the colonial revival style. the courthouse was designed by architects crutchfield and law. the current courthouse is located on the site of the first catoosa courthouse built in 1856. the top floor of the old courthouse was a masonic hall and union masons that occupied ringgold during the civil war refused to burn it. the old courthouse and several other buildings in downtown ringgold served as confederate hospitals during the civil war.

just south of downtown ringgold on US 41 is the site of the battle of ringgold gap. on november 27 1863 the forces of union general joseph hooker met the forces of confederate general patrick cleburne. hooker had 12,000 troops compared to cleburne's 4,100. after a five hour battle the confederates won the battle. this victory denied the union of an important confederate supply line.

ringgold depot and visitors center

a good first stop when visiting ringgold is the ringgold depot and visitors center. this historic 1849 depot was the last stop in the famous civil war "great locomotive chase". the ringgold depot was shelled by union troops during the civil war and you can still see the shell damage today. at the visitor center you can get directions to the famous civil war sites in the ringgold area.

Stand on the fields of Civil War Battles and experience our ancestrial heritage.

"On these fields and hills, Union and Confederate armies clashed during the fall of 1863 in some of the hardest fighting of the Civil War. The prize was Chattanooga, key rail center and gateway to the heart of the Confederacy."

The food was well prepared, and plentiful. the prices were average. (about @10.00) Karaoke, and a bar.

Favorite Dish: I tried the Carne Asada dish. it comes with beans, and rice, and a small salad of tomatoes peppers and onions and lettuce. The tea was just right.
