"Trolley of the Doomed" in Savannah by deecat There are several different Ghost Tours from which to choose in Savannah. The most expensive is perhaps the best. This tour is called "Ghosts and Gravestones, and the reason it is the best is because the guides are dressed as gravediggers, and part of the tour is via the "Trolley of the Doomed"! The tour company refers to the tour as "Frightseeing" rather than sightseeing! Tales of ghosts, ghouls, voo doo, murder, and other sinister deeds are related, and you are taken to "secret haunts" by the guides. They take you to the only house in Savannah to undergo an "exorcism", and they also take you to Colonial Park Cemetery. Departure is Wednesday to Sunday from the end of March through December. (Wed & Thurs. & Sun. 7:00 pm) (Friday & Saturday 7:00 pm & 9:00 pm) Friday and Saturday from January through February (7:00 pm and 9:00 pm) You depart from the Simply Savannah Depot located at 301 E. River Street. They also extend a courtesy hotel pickup in the historic district.. You have to book at least 48 hour in advance. 1-912-233-0083 $25.00 adults $ 9.00 children 4-12 years old
Because there is some walking, you need good walking shoes. It's after the sun sets, so a jacket or sweater except in the summer. Note: photo from a pamphlet Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: 301 East River Street, Simply Savannah DepotPhone: 1-912-233-0083

Oldest stone building in Georgia by deecat Another less expensive Ghost Tour is called "The Ghosts of Savannah", which is entirely a walking tour. This tour last about 90 minutes, and the walk is a leisurely 1 1/4 miles. It is fully narrated by well trained guides. This is perhaps Savannah's most popular tour (due somewhat to price) and is well known because it has been featured on %c0CNN Travel Guide, The Learning Channel, Home & Garden Television, and The Discovery Channel! The cost for an adult ticket is $15.00 The cost for child (7-14) is 8.00 You need reservations so call 1-888-419-4467
Another inexpensive Ghost Tour is called "Ghost Talk/Ghost Walk Tour". If I recall correctly, this is the first and original ghost tour. This one is based on Duke university studies, interviews with Savannahians, and Margaret DeBolt's book called Savannah Specters & Other Strange Tales. This tour departs from John Sesley's Monument in Reynolds Square on Abercorn Street. It always departs at dusk. The Cost: $10.00 for adults 5.00 for children Reservations: 1-912-233-3896 of 1-800-563-3896 Regardless of which tour you select, just have fun with the whole concept of ghosts. Kevin Barry's in Savannah by deecat River Street is, indeed, a night spot in Savannah! It fills with locals, romantic couples, sailors in uniform, and party goers all mingling along the pedestrian promenade...Of course, they also go in and out of the numerous restaurants and bars that have "live" music such as Bayou Cafe, Kevin Barry's (great Irish Pub), and Exchange Tavern. If you happen to be here in August , you will be able to enjoy the Maritime Festival here at River Street. At the festival, there are food stalls, live bands, temporary dance floors, beer & wine stalls, and fireworks! City Market also offers night life activities, but more laid-back. At the Bottom Line, local pianist, Chris Chandler, plays old Johnny Mercer tunes when the swing bands and/or jazz musicians are not performing. City Market Cafe has dinner jazz music, and Crossroads has blues until 3:00 am (except Sundays). Above the Pirates' House Restaurant (20 E. Broad St.), a local jazz club called Hannah's East resides. The Comedy House Theatre in the Southside district at 711 Mall Blvd. presents live comedy and hot snacks. There are several theatres available here for evening entertainment: The Savannah Civic Center at 301 West Oglethorpe hosts popular personalities. Savannah Folk Music Society performs around town in the squares, at festivals and malls. The Savannah Symphony, 225 Abercorn Street performs during its season from September through May; they also perform free summer concerts in the squares! The Savannah Ballet Theatre (912)236-2894 performs throughout the year. Call for a schedule. The Savannah Theatre Company (912)233-7764 also has seasonal productions of musicals, comedies, and dramas. Call for information. City Lights Theatre Company at 125 E. Broughton, (912)233-7764 has local productions in a 100-seat theater; they also present the annual free Shakespeare on the Square in early May.
Dress depends on the place. For instance, the Crossroads is an arty place that caters to artistic souls. (My advice: wear black even in the summer!) For the Ballet Theatre and other theatres more dressy clothing is appropriate. Riverfront is casualwear. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: See Text

Bridge to South Carolina by Azonie The river front is a nice place to be on a warm spring/summer evening..You can watch the river traffic while catching a warm breeze off the river..It's all very well lighted and there's always a lot of people along that area also...If you're looking for more lively night life I couldn't tell you where to go for that...Hanging out at night clubs isn't our main thing to do on vacation, although it would be nice to have one to go to every now and then..I'm sure Savannah has them, as a matter of fact I KNOW they do we just didn't check any out.
Wear comfy shoes like low heels or sneakers, or comfy sandals, the streets leading down to the river front are cobblestone and very hard to walk on in heels. Leave a Comment Theme: Family SpotAddress: Along the River downtown.

by PA2AKgirl it's convenient, it's fun, there's live music. good beer, good people, good times had by all. What more do I need to say? I like this place a lot. I bet it's crazy on St. Patrick's Day...I've heard that Savannah has either the 2nd or 3rd largest celebration in the US.
I didn't notice a particular dress code. I was wearing courdoroys, a tank top and sandals. That seemed to be okay...I don't know about at night, though--we got there in the the evening and stayed for a long long time...I didn't pay attention to dress attire at that point. Leave a Comment

Stage is behind us, squint and you'll see it. by OCNJBritt If you have ever been to a dueling piano bar, you know why they are so much fun...it is a true crowd pleaser. My friends and I were wowed by the dueling pianos at Savannah Smiles. The premise, for those who are unfamiliar, is that the audience writes song titles on napkins, walks their requests on stage to the pianists and slips a few bucks in to hear their song get played. But this is no "Ebony and Ivory"...$5 to hear Springsteen may only get you a stanza before somebody else slips $10 to hear Ella. The two pianists are such talented musicians and singers and comedians... With the Army/Navy rivalry in Savannah, you can be sure that you'll have a rowdy young military crowd in the audience hooting and hollering (and paying big bucks) for Army Battlecries and Navy Ballads.
I don't recall there being a specific dress code, but it is an evening out and you may want to dress up a bit...something I would recommend doing for any outing in Savannah. Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicAddress: Downtown

by marciaca Pinkie Master's is a ***hole of a bar that has a lot of history and is damn fun to get drunk at. Pinkie's is a blue collar bar filled with regular joes and starving artists. Pabst Blue Ribbon or PBR is the beer of choice at Pinkie's. Pinkie Master, who died in 1978, was a life-long local politician who knew everyone in town. The numerous autographed pictures on the wall prove it. There's even George Wallace way back in his boxing days. Jimmy Carter announced he was running for President after climbing on top of the bar. Al Goire even tried to do the same thing a couple of years, but he scored no points for originality.
Whatever you want to wear. Bars close at 3am. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: 318 Drayton St
