Ray's Famous Cafe Savannah by GUYON We went there not because of the similar name but because the restaurant was close to the hotel which provided a poor breakfast of doughnuts. We ordered to the son of the boss who was 10 (not more) and was very serious when he noted the asked food. It was funny. We were confident in the quality of the restaurant because we saw the police having their breakfast there. For us, it is a clue.
Two complete American Breakfasts with pancakes and French toasts (do not imagine the French people eat French Toasts) plus one orange juice. Price : 17 $ including tax and tip (but without the bill we gave directly to young waiter). This place was featured on Turner South's 3 Day Weekend show. I know why, it was great. I will say it was the best restaurant that we ate at during our seven day stay in Savannah. Located on historic River Street, it is in a nicely renovated old building. The service was great and the food was excellent. Be warned though, not only was it the best restaurant I ate at but also the most expensive (appetizer, entree, drinks, desert + tip for four = $170).
Oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer was great. Baked Salmon Duchesse was great.

Leopold's Ice Cream by mikelisaanna Leopold's is a legendary ice cream shop in downtown Savannah that has been serving up scoops to the locals and tourists for about 80 years. In addition to ice cream, Leopold's also has a lunch menu featuring a variety of sandwiches. Leopold's is currently owned by one of the founder's descendants, Stratton Leopold, who made his fortune in Hollywood as a movie producer (Mission Impossible 3, The Sum of All Fears, etc.). The inside of the restaurant is decorated with posters from films that Stratton Leopold worked on over the years. Do they look happy? by rexvaughan This was a pleasant surprise on River Street as it is the prime tourist destination in Savannah and lined with bars, restaurants and shops. The ambience is quite nice and I got the impression that there were some local folk eating here as well as a few tourists like us. It is housed in an early 19th C cotton warehouse and specializes in "Low Country Seafood" - lots of crab, shrimp, scallops and various fish dishes. I give it a thumbs up.
I had Deviled Crab with a mango curry chutney that was marvelous. Also the house salad with a very nice creamy honey mustard dressing. The seafood bisque was not overly thickened and quite delicious. I never know what kind of photos to put on restaurant tips so here I used our friends. Don't they look well satisfied with the place? If you didn't know anything about Paula Deen being the Restaurant Queen you would just walk right by this place. However, you might stop and wonder what the crowd and long lines are all about?!? If you peek inside, it's still nothing over the top spectacular. The Lady & Sons is located in an old renovated hardware store in downtown Savannah. There are three floors - the second floor being where the kitchen is located. Paula Deen has her "Cooking" show on TV and has now also been in a movie. She's being featured on a cruise in April. She features downhome Southern "comfort food" cooking. We have lived in the South long enough to know good food when we find it. This was good. I definitely would recommend visiting The Lady & Sons. Our server was Eric and he was very attentive and seemed to enjoy chatting with us about the success of Paula's restaurant. We also had an "extra perk". The gal that was working the bar is a jazz singer and sang for us every now and then. Nice touch. As soon as we were seated we were served fried corn cakes and cheese buttermilk biscuits that just melted in yo mouth! When we went to the buffet there was plenty of each item kept hot and refilled frequently. Second trips to the buffet were encouraged.
We went to The Lady & Sons on a Sunday so all we could order was the buffet. I'm not a big fan of buffet but I do enjoy visiting places that have some notoriety and since we live close enough and my birthday was on a Sunday, off we went. We got there at exactly one o'clock and we were put on a list and told to come back at 4 o'clock. Fortunately the restaurant is located right in the heart of downtown Savannah so there are plenty of delightful squares to walk through and Bay Street and the Riverwalk are only about 3 blocks away. There was plenty to keep us busy and walking for 3 hours. We checked back in at 2:15 and were told we could go right in!! We were taken to the third floor and then seated in a small intimate room that had a bar. The beverages were not included in the $14.95 meal. Paula Deen is very smart in that she offers quite a selective buffet. The specials offered when we were there were: Pulled pork in gravy, creamed potatoes, fried and baked chicken, butter beans, green beans (that were really fresh beans) sweet potatoes, collard greens (excellent) , turnip greens, corn on the cob, and a salad bar. The server offered us a choice from the dessert tray when we were finished. We had a pineapple dessert which was light and very satisifying. Leave a Comment

This was my first Moroccan experience and was a nice change of pace from all of the seafood and country cooking that we ate all week in Savannah. The food was excellent. My daughter really liked the belly dancing entertainment. Before anyone freaks, it was done very tastefully. They really want you to have the full Moroccan experience which means you sit low to the ground on very fluffy cushions and you eat with your hands. You can ask for silverware if you don't feel comfortable eating with your hands. There is no kids menu so if you have little ones then you may just share with them. For a family of four it cost us a little over $100 including drinks, appetizer, and tip. Believe it or not, this is average price for the area. Nice experience and would recommend. Service was also great. Make sure you call ahead to make reservations, especially if going on the weekend.
For an appetizer we got the apricot shrimp. EXCELLENT!! I got the chicken breast with sweet onions. Again, excellent! My daughter got the chicken breast with apricots. I made sure to sample it and it was great too. Basically most of the dishes were either chicken, lamb, or beef done as either kabobs, sweet onion, or apricot. Can't go wrong. Mellow Mushroom is a local pizza restaurant in Savannah's historic district. The pizzas come in multiple sizes, including individual 10 inch pizzas, and there is a broad selection of toppings available. Service was friendly, and there is a bar if you want beer or wine with your pizza.
