Barrels and shelves and cases filled with every possible confectionl But when it comes to chocolate covered pecans.... my drool embarrasses me. :-)
You can watch them twist and turn the taffy as it automatically cuts, wraps and twists it into its paper. Free samples are cordially offered around the shop.
This is just such a typical old fashioned candy shop filled with every delectible version of sugar... you really shouldn't miss it.

PECANS !!!! Why else come to Georgia?

I can hardly resist a good antique shop and there are many in Savannah. They're scattered in the residential neighborhoods so you have to watch for them. Evidentally their zoning laws monitor their signage because everything is done in moderation and very tasteful. Most of the antiques were from the 1800's which would be suitable to the homes in that area... but if you seek something special for your late victorian, you are likely to find an appropriate treasure.

  • The Oglethorpe mall and another shopping area out that way just aren't as good as they could be. If you are looking for something that you can usually find at a mall, perhaps you could go here, but I would try the downtown shops first. They are more fun and it's always good to support local merchants

There is a great place on River Street where you can watch people make incredible candles. Also, I believe it's called the Savannah Candy Kitchen also on River Street...they have wonderful things to choose from.

less than you would in most major cities

River Street Sweets: More Great Candy, Pralines, etc.

  • This is a great candy shop that makes its own pralines, divinity, taffy, and other candy. They also sell a variety of more standard commercial stuff, but the home-made stuff is the reason to go here. This is near, very similar to, and just as good as, another place, Savannah Candy Kitchen, and I recommend trying both and seeing which one likes better since neither is clearly better than the other.

Pralines, taffy (especially freshly made), divinity.

    It depends.

  • Even if you don't like candles, you MUST visit this store. It offers beautiful decorative candles. It smells soooooo good there!

Also, you can watch a candlemaker at work.

    Candles, of course.

I bought a "pie candle" -- crafted fruits are arranged in the crystal dish and covered by transparent wax. My friends at home thought it was a real pie. They are not stupid, either. It really looks like a pie until you literally stick your nose into it.

Many craft stores are offering pie candles. This store offers truly realistic "pies."
