Christ Church was founded in 1733 as the first church in the state of Georgia. It is Episcopal and still serves as a working church to this day. One of the early rectors, John Wesley, is said to have started the first Sunday School and to have published the first English hymnal in the colonies. The current structure is the third reincarnation of the church on this site and dates to 1838.
