There are so many ways to view the carving but one of the best ways in right in front of it. There is a beautiful lawn and fountain at the base of the mountain, this is a really clean park and it has rules. This is also where everyone comes to stake out their land when it starts getting dark because the Laser show will be starting. You always want...more
Take a relaxing riverboat ride around the lake on the Scarlett O'Hara the ride is about 30 minutes or so and has some really nice views so you may want to take your camera. There is a trail near Confederate Hall which leads to the top of Stone Mountain. The trail is easy to follow as there are yellow markings on the ground to giude you. Its a pretty easy walk with only a few steep areas. At the steepest point, handrails are provided to make it easier.
The sign gives you some general guidelines and information which is pretty basic. Bascially, wear closed shoes and watch out for lightning.
The best part about the walk is enjoying the views along the way and the great vantage point at the top. If you want to see some photos from the walk and the view of the North Georgia mountains, check out my travelogue.
