Museum and Tybee Island Lighthouse/station...lots of exhibits...neat old houses used by lighthouse keepers, restored and available. Really neat afternoon, especially if you have the strength/breath to climb to the top of the lighthouse! They warn of wasps at the top, so this allergic person didn't even attempt it!

  • Miss Judy's Charters

Miss Judy offers the greatest charter fishing around! Inshore and offshore, for various lengths of time. We had a great time on my honeymoon, and the crew was soooo much fun! We went in September and caught tons of fish - it was a blast. They were very friendly. Check out Miss Judy's fishing reports on her site. They are updated frequently and are right on the money!

  • Fishing - Tybrisa Pier

by weebrie Written Aug 29, 2005

You can either hang out or fish off this pier. Night fishing makes the most sense as there are less people swimming. There are no holes to set your fishing rod in, so if you don't want to hold it, bring a dog leash to secure it to the pier in case something (usually a small shark) grabs it. Two rods are allowed per person, I believe. Even just sitting and watching other people catch fish is great. Warmer weather is obviously the best time for this, but I've seen people up there in all weather. There are sinks and counters to help you clean up. Bait can be found at any local gas station. Get it early in the day to defrost it properly, or add some sea water in warmer months and hope for the best!

  • Fishing - Back River Pier

by weebrie Written Aug 29, 2005

You can fish in the surf or off the dock of the back river pier (but be careful of any swimmers). This pier is generally pretty vacant when it's not a holiday. Bring a lantern or flashlights (you can get a flourescent lantern at the WalMart on the way into town) because there are no lights - and that includes the bathroom at the base of the pier! It can be tricky to find at night, although there are a few signs. Your best bet is to stop at a gas station or ask a local for directions. It's a great, usually quiet place to chill and fish, especially in the evening. You can get bait at just about any gas station on the island.

    Dolphin tours

Typically while swimming in the ocean on Tybee Island we could see dolphins swimming very close to us-it was cool. We took a dolphin cruise which took us out on a small boat with maybe 20 other people and went to spots to find dolphins. It was amazing! We saw lots of dolphins and heard a lot of history about the area.

    Just walking around the Island..

Just walking around the Island is a fun thing to do, you never know what kind of scenery you'll see..The area is just loaded with homes that have been there for years and it's so quiet and peaceful. To be out on a summer day with the breeze in your face and the Trees overhead is almost heaven.

Fort Pulaski is an even better place to visit then Fort Screven..It has a Moat all the way around it with small alligators in it and loggerhead turtles..It also still has some cannon balls still lodged in the outside walls.

It marks the mouthof the Savannah river. The light house and keepers' cottage are open to the public.

One can climb to the top through its inner staircase for a good view of the Typee Island.

Fort Screven is a good place to visit on Tybee, it's loaded with History and it's right on the beach, a stones throw away anyway.
