This is by far one of the best preserved downtown from the late 1800's and early 1900's. WE spent the day there, and could have spent more time if possible. They have many antebellum homes, and a great County museum and farmstead complex. It could be a place to stay overnight and enjoy the scenery and serenity.
It is on Hwy 84 and 40 miles west of VAldosta

located about 25 miles north of valdosta on CR 125 is nashville georgia. nashville is the county seat of berrien county. the area around nashville gives the visitor a look into the past of southern georgia. this area is agricultural with cotton, peanut, tabacco, hog, and cattle farms. along berrien county's roads you can see the ruins of homes and farms that date back to the plantation days and the reconstruction era. see my nashville page for more information.

If you want to see Georgia wildlife (especially birds), then this is the place.

This wildlife refuge is huge. It covers woodlands and marsh and fields. There is a half-mile long wooden-plank trail that allows birders into the dense brush/treed areas without boots.
There is a 60-foot high viewing tower where you can see woodpeckers, hawks, warblers, osprey, herons, ducks.
We did not get to the boat-launches but you can use low-power boats and canoes to traverse the wetlands and reed beds. In the pine forest, they have marked a 3-mile hikers loop for access to birds and animals in that habitat.

Plan on 3-4 hours here and come prepared with water and snacks because there are no amenities (focus is on the syllable WILD in wildlife).
