Valdosta Restaurants

I am not a seafood fan so for me this is just a run-of-the-mill Red Lobster. My wife likes seafood so to her the nautical-patterned booths and colorful, fish-shaped tables and the live lobsters in the tank and the seafood on her plate are just great. Luckily (for me) she drags me into these places only occassionally and only on vacation.

The specialty items for dinner are: lobster tail, steamed snow crab legs, garlic shrimp scampi, seafood-stuffed flounder and grilled salmon. My wife ordered some combination of those items and I ordered a grilled steak. Surprisingly the steak was actually not bad; medium well done with a tinge of burnt on the edges and not dry in the center (just the way I like it). We got cheesy biscuits and a green salad on the side and two glasses of iced tea.
The meal came to about $25 plus tax and tips. Not too bad to keep peace in the family.

The place was crowded and they put the tables too close together so that you end up hearing the conversations at the tables around you. The place was clean and bright; a little over the top on the nautical theme. The staff was friendly and got the meal to us without much of a wait. The food was okay. The price was a bit more than I usually pay but we don't do seafood that often so the prices may be higher for shrimp/fish than basic meat-potatoes.

I'd go there again if my wife wanted but not too often.

For those who have never entered a Hooters Restaurant, they serve things like Fried Chicken, soups, sandwiches, burgers, etc. They are best known for their wings and their waitresses. The waitresses wear Hooters T-Shirts, orange short shorts, and stockings. They are usually young and attractive. The Hooters in Valdosta is no acception.

Favorite Dish: They have great wings and I like their Chili (I add onion and cheese.

Is was very good in taste and the sauces compliments the meats. They have three sauce choices form KC sweet, Carolina vinegar, and hot. It is operated only 11-3 daily by a group of black sisters who like to cook meats. Prices were very fair at $6 a sandwich. It is counter ordering, and they bring meal to the table

Favorite Dish: The pork sandwich was very good with a real deep smoke flavor. Micky did like the Carolina sandwich with the slaw very much, also.

I never herd of such a combination for a menu and the items are select. They have a lot of pizza varieties, but also calzone, meaballs, and Italian eats. The mussel concept came in vogue for these Italian sisters when they found they could order from Chile and freeze the mussels. Mussels were about $11 for 18, and a calzone $8

Favorite Dish: A mussel plate of 18 was ample and very good tasting. The calzone I had was the largest ever taken on by me'; simply huge and loaded with sausage and a great deal of cheese.

The food was okay, but nothing to brag about. the portions were not big, and no side dish comes with the sandwiches. I had the CAveman wrap with ham, cheese and it was not very filled with meat. Micky had tuna sandwich, and basically small and scant of tuna. Prices are too high for what you get, but other downtown places also have higher end prices.

Favorite Dish: None that ocmes to mind

Upon arrival, you get a "beachy" feeling by the oyster shell parking lot and color scheme of the restuarant. Next thing you notice is the service, or possibly the lack of. The menu as well as all table setting is plastic which to me almost takes away from the food. I would have prefered real cutlery as well as plates and cups. The ambience is def. that of a seaside seafood place. The manager and owners are extremely nice, but may not know so much about managing a business.

Favorite Dish: I had the half pound grilled shrimp with caesar salad and potato salad. Very nice taste to all the items.

Price is reasonable and atmosphere is homey.

Favorite Dish: four vegetable plate - select four vegetables from among a list and you receive a plate full of vegetables and all the biscuits/muffins you can eat. Very filling and nutritious.

This is a small, elegant bistro-type restaurant housed in a cute one-story building, with wooden rafters overhead and white table cloths with flowers on the table. It is one block from the main Courthouse, and easy to pass by. The food was excellent; my wife had the short ribs which were succulent, marinated in wine, and served with a delicious risotto. I had the duck confit, which included both a leg of duck--tender and flavorful--and slices of smoked breast meat, which tasted like it came out of a local barbeque oven. This was accompanied with braised brussel sprouts in a delicious lemony broth, and a unique turnip mashed potatoes which would have fooled me--I thought they were mashed--as my wife pointed out their subtle flavor. The wine list was small but adequate, and the dessert of Chocolate Mousse was smooth, full of flavor and yet not too heavy on the tummy! Service was excellent; portions were modest, so if you are looking for a giant feed, better go to the steak house down the road, but for people who don't want to overeat, everything was just right!

Favorite Dish: Both the duck and short ribs were excellent; I'd have either again in a minute!

the bleu cafe is a trendy eating and drinking spot in downtown valdosta. good food moderately priced. the bleu cafe's ultra modern interior is some what unexpected in a small south georgia town.

the bistro is located in downtown valdosta near the court house. good american fare moderately priced. a nice place to have lunch when in downtown valdosta.
