Favorite thing: The Appalacian Trail crosses through the park at Blood Mountain. The trail begins at Springer Mountain in Amicalola Falls State Park and continues through 14 states to its terminus in Maine. Only the dedicated find time to do the entire thing, but, if you want to hike a portion of the trail, albeit not the most scenic of it, you can do so in Vogel State Park. If you hike up Blood Mountain, you will reach Neel's Gap and the junction with the Appalacian Trail.
Favorite thing: Vogel State Park lies at the base of Blood Mountain. Just slightly smaller than Georgia's highest peak, the summit of Blood Mountain can be reached via a 6 mile steep trail which begins near the parking lot. I wouldn't attempt this one on a steamy and humid summer afternoon, but its supposed to be a good dayhike. I've seen photos from the top and they are pretty impressive.
Creeking! They have some of the best creeks. Get in your bad shoes and even worse clothes and get in!
Fondest memory: I have so many! I've been going here every year since I was a baby. My fathers family started going when he was a child so I have so many memories of Vogel. I miss the smell when I leave. I always will smell something and say "It smells like Vogel here".
I love the whole park! There are paddleboats, hiking trails, a volleyball court, a playground, a miniature golf course, and a little store for gifts and supplies.
Fondest memory: When we are here, all the worries of the world seem to disappear.
