Cronies Bar & Grill is a cozy yet cleanly set up gathering area. Picture your hard day at work in the office and all you want to do is relax after landing that account. This would be the place to do it. It's a comfortable place to sit and shoot the bull yet it doesn't feel like a pub or a bar.
Don't act up in here because they do have bouncers. Last time I passed by there were two big guys sitting outside and one was arguing with some skinny guy.
Dress Code: Dress comfortably. You don't have to be trendy here, just make sure you have footwear on.
Uncle Mikey's Night Club is synonomous in Hilo with after party parties. Again, I'm not a clubber or bar goer but you can't help but notice this place. I used to work in a big office with lots of people who seemed to base their life on social outings. They'd always ALWAYS mention this place and who they remembered (insert activity here) last night. I drove past this place one day and it wasn't all that from the outside. But this is apparently where the scene is at so... Here you go!
They have an online feature where you can view frequently updated webcam shots of the dance floor from their website. One of my former co-workers saw herself getting way too freaky and couldn't stop laughing.
Dress Code: I guess it's casual and comfortable but if you want to be trendy, go ahead.
As a former habitue of Flipside Too on Mamo Street in Hilo, I was really pleased when the new bar opened in April after a two year wait. It was a long time getting past all the bureaucratic hurdles and red tape, but now well worth the wait.
100percentMoxie is Hilo Hawaii's newest night club/ party spot/ live music/ pool/ and good-food place to go. The previous owners of Flipside Too which was demolished two years ago have opened this new bar/restaurant not far from the old place. The new bar is located at 318 Kinoole in Hilo and has excellent inexpensive food, a variety of live music, two pool tables and some really pretty and congenial bartenders and wait help. You can find out more including a calendar of events, and menu at www.hilonightlife.com
The food is excellent, generous and inexpensive. There is off-street parking right in front of the place and even though it doesn't have the same cockroachy-old-downtown-Hilo ambiance as Flipside Too did, it has its own charm and is much more spacious with a nice curved bar and lots of tables, a good dance floor and two pool tables. It's a great place to have fun and even has both a morning and a late afternoon happy hour.

100% Moxie, is the newest party spot in Hilo. After Flipside Too closed in 2008, the owners of Flipside Too, a mother and daughter team, searched for a new place to open. They found it and after a two year struggle with bureaucratic red tape opened their doors in 2010.
There are two pool tables, and a great lunch/pupu's menu at really reasonable prices. There is an ongoing schedule of live music and other events including an occasional evening of mechanical bull riding competition with cash prizes and live authentic country-western music. There is a complete schedule of coming events on their website, www.hilonightlife.com, along with drink and food menus. This place has two happy hours each day, one in the morning and another in the late afternoon. During the day it has the flavor of a local neighborhood bar and is a great place to have lunch, meet new people and enjoy a beverage of your choice. Check their website for nighttime music and other events.
Dress Code: No special dress code required.
