On the Big Island
Who goes to the Hilo-side of this island without stopping at Akaka Falls? This is one of the EASIEST of the taller waterfalls on the island to access (by no means the tallest...just the easiest to access). If you've never seen a 420 foot high waterfall you should make an effort to see this one if you're on this side of the island.
The park in which it resides is a beautiful tropical setting. There are many varieties of ginger and bamboo everywhere. You can even get a snack on the wild berries and guava growing along the paths if they're in season.

This general store is owned and opperated by the Ishigo family. Years and years ago, it was customary for business owners to name their shops or stores after their family names. It was also expected that the children would continue to opperate the business long after the owners died. This store is still here today after several generations of ownership. It's probably one of the oldest stores still in opperation in the state.

If you decide to stop here, just take a walk down the street and visit the old shops. There's something there for you to remember. There's a homey feel to this place, go ahead and wander around a bit.
