  • Flipside too and Mina's

    Hilo Nightlife

My favourite pool/biker/drag queen bar. Never found anywhere like it on Earth. I was there in August 2004 and April 2008, when it was just about to be demolished to make way for a car park at Hilo market. Progress... bollocks. Sorry to see you go, and sorry I wasn't there for the last-night party.

  • Lava.

    Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Nightlife

Well, if you've managed to snag a place to stay at the HVNP, make the effort to take a drive to see the lava path at night. Follow road to the bottom of Chain of Craters road and if lava is visible, you will see the glowing reds along the mountain. Light windbreaker is nice to have ... it can get breezy as well as have sudden unexpected rain...

  • Lava flows at nite

    Hawaii (Big Island) Nightlife

Seeing the lava flow in the daytime is awesome in itself, but no words can truly express the overwhelming excitement of seeing the glowing lava at night! Long sleeve garment, good covered shoes, maybe a hat and/or windbreaker (rain, wind, and cooler temperatures) Bring a flashlight and water ... unless you want to just purchase it at the beginning...

  • Huggos

    Kailua-Kona Nightlife

A great casual bar in the heart of Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Definitely idolic of the 'beach' bar atmosphere and setting - this ocean-front cocktail bar and pub is an off-shoot of the Huggo's Restaurant next door. My one and only visit found it to be very friendly, hospitable, with great service and good bar staff. The patrons all looked...

  • Captain Bean Dinner

    Kailua-Kona Nightlife

Captain Bean's Dinner (aka 'Booze') Cruise Spend two hours on a boat cruising the seas just offshore of Kona, eating traditional Hawaiian food and drinking as many Mai Tais as you can down while the band plays the theme song from 'Hawaii Five-Oh', for the all-inclusive price of about $50. The drinks are kind of weak, but a quiet word to your...

  • Brewery

If you like brew pubs this is a good place to go. It was the first microbrewery on Big Island and is now quite big. Some beer examples: Longboard(Island lager), Fire Rock (Pale Ale) and for girls one with passion fruit flavour. The place has a nice patio area and it is not too touristy. At least we thought locals hang out as well. Dinner menu is...

  • Spectacular Drums Of Polynesian Revue!

The highlight of the evening during a Luau was the spectacular Drums Of Polynesian Revue. From the Fijian and Maori dances of war to the gracefulness of the Hawaiian Hula dancer's hands. This fabulous group of Polynesians brought us a fun filled evening we won't soon forget. The daring Samoan fire knife dancer highlighted the evening with an...
