The path trough the kilauea iki crater

This is a short hike that brings you to the bottom of the Kilauea Iki Crater. You will descent via stairs (ccw) or path in to the crater (cw). This depends which way round you go. At the bottom follow the stone men to the other side.
It is a strange feeling when you walk trough a crater that was in 1959 one big fire pot. Knowing that below you feet there still is liquid earth and watching the fume rise from the cracks.
It took us approx. 2-2,5 hours to get round. Do bring water because the sun can be very warm in the crater, but also bring a good raincoat. It rains a lot in the park. In the crater you are in the open so an umbrella is of no use unless you want to fly like Mary Poppins.
