Hike one of the trails down to the coast. Somebody in our group has the ingenious idea to hike down this trail. Not a problem going DOWN, but there's only one way back UP and its not by escalator or donkey. If you're going to do this, bring plenty of water, sunscreen and wear decent shoes.

This island has the barking dog beach, Mark Twain called the desert there 'Little Grand Canyon, and we ran across a coffee plantation which was interesting to see how it is made and beans picked from the trees.

I LOVE cactuses. Wherever you look around, you see a lot of them. They are grown in this area because it's much more drier than Hilo, which is very green.
