Real country town with all the bells and whistles
Drive on Road 19 about 20 miles to Kohala Coast and visit Hapuna Beach State Park. It's one of the nicest beaches on the Island. Hapuna has beautiful white sand a clean sandy bottom, and great surf & boogieboarding. Visit the snack bar and get yourslef a giant hamburger.more

There are bars at most of the hotels, but this is a small island. This is the laui dinner at night.
Dress Code: It can be casual or dress up and buy a Hawaiian shirt or dress there.
We rented a car, it takes 45 minutes to drive around the island.
Gotta go on a helicopter ride to see that spectacular falls and mountains. This was my first helicopter ride and I loved it. VERY EXPENSIVE tho!
You have to get lei'd while in Hawaii.
Even my dog got lei'd. Ok, to be serious you can not take dogs with you from the mainland unless you are staying a long time because they quarantine them.
DO not touch the endangered animals of there are hefty fines.

Hike one of the trails down to the coast. Somebody in our group has the ingenious idea to hike down this trail. Not a problem going DOWN, but there's only one way back UP and its not by escalator or donkey. If you're going to do this, bring plenty of water, sunscreen and wear decent shoes.more
It has to be the traditional hula dance. They have luaus at most major hotels, quite the tourist trap, but you have to see one and watch because their culture is very different than what I am used to.
