Wahoo Seafood Bar & Grill: Seafood and More

by kellinwood Updated Nov 17, 2011

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We had a great dinner experience here. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was great. Laurie ordered a seafood sampler from the daily specials which consisted of three different fish prepared three different ways, and I got the baby back ribs. The amount of ribs was a bit on the light side, but other than that it was all very good.

Despite its name, the menu is diverse and offers more than just seafood. They have pastas, sandwiches (burgers, grilled cheese), salads, fish, lobster, scallops, steak, and ribs, etc. There appears to be something for everyone here.

We were seated on the patio overlooking a lot full of palm trees and we had a nice view of the sunset.

They have happy hour specials every day from 4 to 6pm and have live music Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights between 6 and 8:30pm.

cocoNUTS Island Style Bar and Grill: Best Tuna in Kauai

by brewjohnson Updated Mar 1, 2010

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Coconuts is the type of place you drive by and think... boy that place looks cheesy and touristy. Oversized tiki statues and torches don't quite fit in a parking lot on the side of the highway next to a strip mall. Even the way the name was written on the sign... cocoNUTS (big emphasis on the NUTS!!!!) made us crack up every time we drove by (which we did several time on our way to Hanalei). Every time we wondered who would go into a place that looked so touristy and gimmicky. However, after several in-the-know locals told us it was a great place to eat, we decided to give it a shot. All I can say is WOW!!!! Thank God we did. Best ahi tuna I've ever had. This isn't the most glamorous restaurant in Kauai, but it was the best of the many we tried (at least, the wasabi crusted ahi was).

Do yourself a service and give it a try. If there's only two of you, eat at the bar. You'll definitely get some good local info from the bartenders and are sure to run into some interesting characters.

UPDATE: I have heard that cocoNUTS has closed. What a shame.

Favorite Dish: Wasabi Crusted Ahi (a must). Lobster ravioli (great starter).

  • Eggberts: Banana Pancakes are Worth the Visit

by Kalemakapii Written May 28, 2007

Eggberts was advertised as one of the best, if not THE best breakfast places to go in the Kapaa area. Service was quick and friendly... wanted to order blueberry pancakes, thinking that the batter was chock full of blueberries... nope, they only had blueberry syrup? Same for strawberry and all the rest. Had to settle for banana pancakes. They were very good. Toast was not toasted, but was grilled. Also, when we opened the sealed jelly package to put jelly on the toast, the package had mold on the inside! It was gross. The restaurant is located on Hiway 50 at Coconut Marketplace... a run-down, 1970's era marketplace, with dozens of arts and crafts stalls. Very few tourists there... the place is really old and run down, not unlike a number of places in the Kapaa area. If ya want a really good b-fast and don't mind paying extra, go to Gaylords. If ya just want something fast and cheap, go to McDonalds...

  • Lemongrass: You've Got to be Kidding

by TommyTab Written Nov 30, 2006

Based upon a recomendation of some people we met, we had dinner at the Lemongrass Restaurant. One of us had a "Surf and Turf" selection. The lobster was good, but when my friend bit into the steak, she immediately spit it out. I smelled it, and I think I have only experienced that smell of rancid meat coming out of a dumpster at the rear of a cheap restaurant. Our waiter, after having conferred with the "manager" offered us a 15% discount on the dish which we refused. The "manager" came over and started arguing with us about how he had no control over the tast of variuos cows, but finally offered to take the price of the steak off the bill.
To say the least, this ruined the entire meal. After all, if a restuarant is capable of serving rotten meat, how can you trust anything else they serve.
    Truely disgusting!!!

    Eggbert's: Eggbert's

by SFHulaGIrl Written Jun 2, 2004

Casual indoor or outdoor dining; apparently, THE breakfast spot in town. Go for the banana pancakes or eggs Florentine.

Favorite Dish: I couldn't pass up trying their Loco Moco (two scoops of rice, a hamburger patty, and an egg all smothered with brown gravy)!

Bubba'a Burgers: They'll relish your buns.

by Avryle Updated Oct 2, 2002

Definitely NOT Bubba's Burgers (should this go under travel warning?)

Some guy I sat next to on the flight over kept raving about how wonderful Bubba's was. 'Dude, you gotta go there.' After eating here, I've come to two conclusions- 1. The guy eats his own fecal matter and likes it ~or~ 2. He doesn't have any taste buds.

Favorite Dish: Petrified lump of rat meat shaped into a disc, grilled and topped with a vomitous substance that's passed off as a '65 year-old secret recipe.' Pure nasty all for the bargain price of $3.00+ and here I thought McDonald's had the monopoly on gross.
