This is a MUST STOP in Kauai. JoJo's Shave Ice in Waimea is a little hole in the wall shack with plywood doors and duct tape doorknob. But don't let that stop you from enjoying the famous JoJo's shave ice. They have 60 flavors, but I am not sure if that included the combinations as well. If you don't know what shave ice is think of a snow cone only 1000 times better. The ice is shaved into packed snow (not ice like a "snow cone") and LOTS of flavored syrup is poored over. The locals like to put icecream in the middle to give it the creamy taste. Sometimes cream is poured on top. My hubby is hooked but I can never finish one. There are two benches outside the shop that allow you time to watch the people drive by or you can walk up and down the street as we did and check out a local craft show up the road. If you would like to try Hawaiian food without all the tourist melodrama you will find in most commercial luaus, this is the place. Aloha Diner is a very small, basic, unpretentious, just what it says - diner (plastic tablecloths, view of the parking lot) - with authentic Hawaiian food that is not very expensive. Yummy. My favorite is lau lau - pork and fish wrapped in a thick bundle of taro leaves and another layer of ti leaves, then steamed. You eat the taro - it is similar to spinach, but a softer, creamier texture and a richer flavor. The ti leaves are just wrapping - don't eat them. It's really delicious, and I wish I could get it here in Steamboat. Also delicious - the kalua pig, pipikaula (Hawaiian style jerky - very different), and the poke. |

Wonderful food, nice variety! Seafood, steak, chicken, all awesome! Best salad bar on the island. Drinks are great and the Hula Pie is out of this world! It is A huge slice of macadamia nut icecream in a cookie crust topped with hot fudge, macadamia nuts, and whipped cream! Atmosphere is very romantic, with great views! They also have a barefoot bar below with some great tables by an indoor waterfall! My favorite is the Grilled Ahi! And for dessert, doesn't get any better than Hula Pie! |

What a combination--Great food and great views. Located upstairs which overlooks the Ocean on one side of the restaurant and Kuhio Street on the other. Excellent service coupled along with excellent food made this restaurant one we had to go back to before we left the island of Kauai. First off, if you are ordering lunch or dinner you must try the Hummus appettizer. The pita bed was warm and fresh--a great complimment to the hummus itself. If you like fish then the Olympic Cafe makes "ono" (great tasting) fish tacos which comes with a grilled banana which was delectable. The chicken tenders were great and so was the Avocado, Tomato, bacon sandwhich was was accompanied by a half of a very sweet and delicious pappya. But what really gave my husband cause for pause was the size of the coffee mug. A generous tankard of "liquid consciousness" as he likes to call it. Refills were free too! The Olympic Cafe is open for breakfast too. |

The food and atmosphere here are both great! Although, don't let the name fool you, it is not near a beach. It is located in the town of Hanalei (you know, puff the magic dragon!) They have a very nice variety on their menu and large portions. Very tasty! I love their beer battered fish and chips! Served nice and hot, and very yummy! Also their coconut shrimp is not to be passed up! For dessert I like the Chocolate Suicide Cake. It is very good. (Not as good as hula pie, but very good). |

On your way up to Ke'e beach - there is a quick & cheap place to grab breakfast. The restaurant is called Lighthouse Bistro, it's in the Kong Lung Center, which is very close to the Kilauea Lighthouse & Bird Sanctuary. Breakfast wraps - they are fabulous. You can get it with meat or vegetarian, they are only a couple of dollars. |

Toi's Thai Kitchen was one of our favorite places to eat while we were on Kauai. The food was very good, the service quite friendly, and it wasn't hard to get there. They are located in the Ele'ele Shopping Center, on the right side as you go in the parking lot. Thee is a grocery store in the same shopping center if you need supplies. |

This is a good health food store that also serves veggie lasagna, veggie burgers, and falafels. You order at the deli counter on the side of the store, pick up your food and take it to the tables outside. After you finish you go back in the store and buy the food supplies that you need to take home. |

Food is fantastic and its located right on the Hyatt Regency Property. Relax and enjoy a wonderful meal with excellent service and wait staff. Every table is located in a hut overlooking a lagoon. Very romantic! Its like the tropics are indoors. Relax with a fruity drink and enjoy the Hawaiian Cuisine. Great island fish prepared with fresh vegetables. |

Tucked away on the east shore, they serve delicious food. They are always serving someting different here. Is has outside setting and the mosquitos are bad sometimes. They do have citronelle filled pots to light to keep them away. Daily specials I was pleasantly surprised to see that I got frequent flyer miles for eating here. |
