    Kalaheo Steakhouse: Great Steakhouse

    by AVG2319 Written May 17, 2007

We went here on recommendation of our helicopter pilot. He told us to get here early, so we did! They are closed on Mondays, but open for dinner all other nights. The restaurant is nothing special to look at, but the steaks were good- so "Ono" delicious for the steaks and ouch for the steep price!

Our helicopter pilot told us "they open at 6 and they often run out of cow by 8!"

Pizza Hanalei: Not very good pizza

    by AVG2319 Written May 17, 2007

I really didn't want to eat here, but my husband insisted because the other restaurant had a long line. I was not impressed with this pizza. The crust was very thin almost tasted like unleavened bread and overall the pizza was not very tasty. This was the only "bad" experience I had with food while visiting the island. I made my husband stop at Taco bell afterwards.

Bali Hai Restaurant: Don't Miss The fresh fish plainly grilled

by venteeocho Updated Jun 5, 2007

Imagine dining as the sunset paints the sky all gold and orange above the magnificent angles of the dark and mysterious mountains, turning the ocean almost purple in Hanalei Bay. Sip a cocktail while the cool evening breeze, fragrant with tropical flowers, touches your skin like silk. At the Bali Hai Restaurant, you can find the Kauai of your imagination, the dream of an island paradise that haunts you in the dead of winter.

Favorite Dish: We still prefer the fresh fish plainly grilled, though we enjoy having these sauces served on the side for a quick dip. Most entreés are expensive, like the tasty lamb chops ($30), and are accompanied only by vegetable and ‘starch of the day.’ Appetizers drive up the dinner price, though they are appealing, like blackened seared ahi with cabbage and wasabi cream, or superb crab cakes ($13) with curry corn sauce. Prix fixed menus ($55) are also available.

    Pomodoro in Kalaheo: Wonderful Italain

by jeadon Updated Feb 19, 2004

We love Italian food and this place is a real find! In Kalaheo, up stairs in a small shopping center of all places! It's on the ocean side of Lihue Highway just east Steve's Food Mart. Call for reservations. Wonderful wine list and menu. Personal, friendly service. Very owner-involved.

Favorite Dish: I love the Canelloni! The pasta's tender and the marinara's fantastic. The Kalamari's also great for an appetizer.

Brick Oven Pizza: Pizza is in paradise, too!

by slabeaume Written Apr 5, 2003

Ok, if you're not into pizza, don't fear---they have lots of sandwiches, desserts, salads, etc, too. Not only is the food great, but the ambience is neat, too. Definately not fancy, a place to go to right from the beach. While waiting for your pizza, gaze upon the hundreds of car liscense plates and funny paintings on the walls. If you get tired of looking at that stuff, watch the pizza maker tossing the pizza---or check out the wierd roots of the tree out back!

Favorite Dish: I LOVED the pizza! It's thick, with a butter garlic coating on the edges and a crunchy corn meal on the bottom. The toppings weren't bad either! We particularly liked the salami pizza. So much so, that we went back 3 times! But don't go on Mon., they're closed then.

    salami pizza at it's best!

A local favorite! An unassuming roadside eatery in Waimea with a few picnic tables. Messy to eat but totally worth it.
