Sheer Cliffs "LOOK DOWN" by LoriPori The Hana road, with its sheer cliffs and jungle gulches, winds through giant tree ferns and African tulip trees, edges along a bamboo forest and finally straightens out near Wai'anapanapa State Park. By the time you reach the town of Hana, you'll be ready for "Haupia" (coconut pudding). Maui is a busy-bee of an island with something for everyone. Find out for yourself why the residents say "Maui No Ka Oi" ---Maui is the Best. Leave a Comment

Ohe'o Gulch by LoriPori About 10 miles out of Hana you will come to OHE'O GULCH, formerly known as Seven Sacred Pools. There are really 24 large pools and many smaller ones. The two-mile hike to Waimoku Falls is definitely worth the climb. It was a very steep trail down to the Gulch so I only went half way and came back. Bring a towel, swimsuit and beach shoes as you can swim there as a lot of people were doing. Leave a Comment

Merle the Pearl by LoriPori The best driver/guide you could ever want would definitely be MERLE THE PEARL. Originally from Arkansas, he has been living in Hawaii for 18 years. He made our Maui Hana Tour so much fun and we learned so much from him. He was very knowledgeable about most of the flora and fauna on Maui and was continuously naming all these plants and flowers we passed along the road. Making our way along the very narrow, dusty, bumpy roads, Merle did the rollercoaster thing with us. 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 "Hands in the Air" or when we were literally at the edge of a steep cliff, it was "Look down" LOVED IT!!!! Keanae by LoriPori Hana Highway 36, with its 617 turns and 56 one-lane bridges is one of 52 Millenium Legacy Trails established to protect historic roads and trails around the nation. Must stops along the HEAVENLY ROAD TO HANA include Kaumahina State Wayside Park, Keanae Arboretum, Kipahulu's Oheo Pools, Wailua Valley State Wayside, Puaa Kaa State Wayside and Wai'anapanapa State Park. Fifteen minutes past Hana is the 95-foot Wailua Falls. Leave a Comment

Rolling pasture lands by LoriPori If there is one reason for Maui's enduring popularity, it is it's diversity. The second largest in the Hawaiian chain, Maui is 48 miles long and 26 miles across. Into that space you will find long, sandy beaches, tropical rain forests, rolling green pasture lands and spectacular rocky cliffs. Although Maui's average temperature is between 75 and 85 degrees, in one day you can huddle at the top of Haleakala Crater watching a sunrise in 40-degree weather, sit on the sand in Kihei enjoying the trade winds at noon and watch the sun set in the west in the cooler eevenings. Maui's Winery by LoriPori The last stop on our Maui Hana Tour was at MAUI'S WINERY. It was a lovely little place with park-like grounds surrounded by 100-year old trees. They let us have four tastings of their wine, which were very good and very appreciated after our long day. They do offer free guided tours at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and are open seven days a week. Yellow Hibiscus by LoriPori Maui is blessed with many beautiful and exotic flowers, including the yellow hibiscus pictured here. Exotic island flowers include anthurium, ginger, heliconia and my favourite, bird of paradise. The bird of paradise gets its name from its appearance. The plant's stalk looks like the neck of a crane topped with a beak and spiky orange crest. Leave a Comment

Haleakala Crater, Maui by aloha088 Maui is considered to be the most beautiful island of the Hawaiian Islands. Well, Maui offeres a little bit of everything. There is very good tourist infrastructure, which results in thousands of tourists driving with motorcoach tours form one sight to the other. This does not happen on the other islands. In my opinion the other islands are still more natural and kind of wilder. For real adventure visit the other islands. If you like romantic, expensive holidays in paradise you may like Maui Leave a Comment
