Honokalani Black Sand Beach is located in the Wainapanapa State Park. Usually people just know it as Black Sand Beach. Also its more like rocks not sand. You will definitley need water shoes here. There is a picnic area, campground and cemetary here then you can walk down to the beach. This is also on the Road to Hana and a popular stop for tourist who are doing the drive.
The one thing I dont get is the campground AND cemetary. You wouldnt find me sleeping anywhere near a cemetary. But there are plenty of people here that have no problem with it.
THis is a 120 acre park and theres alot to do here. There are hiking trails, caves to explore, black lava cliff to see. the scenery is so amazing, so beautiful. We only went to the water for alittle bit. It started to get alittle chilly so we walked around alittle bit and we went back on the road. But there clearly is alot of things to see and do here so maybe next time with a little more time and planning we will get to do some other things here.

This is a beautiful area to spend a day. Follow the trail to the Wainapanapa caves to see where the Hawaiian princess fled her husband and hid in the caves. Then continue on to the black sand beach and up the Kings Trail on the lava rock cliffs for amazing views.
