If you have a car, drive up towards Napili. Eventually, you'll come to a sign that this is the end of the road. You can continue on and actually drive all the way around to the other side of Wailuku, but it's a bit of a treacherous ride.

If you come to the end of the road sign, turn around and start coming back toward Lahaina. Stop your car along the side of the road and walk toward the edge of the cliffs. You will see some breathtaking views of the ocean, and of sheer cliffs being buffeted by waves. If you look up or down the coast line, you can get some great photos of the craggy cliffs and crashing waves.
    Great photo opportunity.

Rent a car and drive the Road to Hana. Most travel guides will tell you about nature´s beauty along the road (jungle, waterfalls, etc), but the actual adventure is the ride. There are about 600 bends, narrow, one-lane bridges and drivers that care about nothing.
This road will take you to the village of Hana. Continue on the road, and you´ll reach the Oheo Gulch with its natural pools. If you like, you can bathe in one of the pools (together with hundreds of tourists), or you hike uphill for some peace and quiet.

Special love affair with Maui since the 80's. Have enjoyed scores of visits. This time, for the first time, we ran into Halloween. 25,000 or more residents & visitors descend on Lahaina Town. Cars are banned after 2pm. Afternoon kid parade is followed by an awesome, FUN, adult playground of sights n' sounds. 90% of the island's 300 member police force were there. Seems that in past years over zealous party goers have gone over the top. No problems this night.

In light of all the warnings about not driving into town I drove to Lahaina early, about 3pm, and paid $5 for all day parking at the Ace Hardware lot a couple of blocks from Front street. No problem with traffic either coming or going.

Aside from these photos I did a piece with stills and some video for YouTube. Here is my YouTube
