Maui at sunset before a storm

When the sky turns this color, head for cover, it means a big storm is coming. Of course, rain is common in Hawaii, but usually rain is brief. This storm had some oomph to it! Don't forget your umbrella.

Pay attention to the warning flags at the beaches. Rough weather can be end your holiday in a tragedy.

Maui does have a rush hour and traffic can move at a snails pace from about 3 to 5 PM.

Upon occasion there are Portugese Man-0-War in the water. Avoid going in if they are there.

Here's some helpful information to pass along.
#1. If you take any hike, rememeber to put on mosquito repellent.
#2. Don't try to take any produce back to the mainland with you. It will be confiscated at the airport - all bags must pass through a separate x-ray machine which is used to find produce.
#3. If you dive, don't drive up Haleakala the following day. The word 'Bends' comes to mind.
#4. Don't forget the sunscreen.

You may find that days after you have returned home you are still finding sand in places like your belly button! Also you are prone to daydreaming alot after you start back to work. This is a sample belly button I found at http://belly.buttons.tripod.com/ If you look closely you may see some sand!

Our ride on Maui

Yeah, sounds corny for a warning. But, the cops really enforce it. They just sit on the side of the road waving vehicles in two at a time, writing tickets like crazy. Not worth $92.00. Click it.

Watch out for lava flow or your car might end up like this one! (Just kidding, sort of) This car was abandoned on the road in Makena in a lava flow!

The surf can get dangerous quickly.

Watch for the flags advising you on the surf conditions and believe them. Wear your seat belt driving. The local paper detailed many accidents where the drivers were not.
