    Enjoy the Empty Beaches

by AKtravelers Written Sep 28, 2008

Favorite thing: Moloka'i only has 7,000 people on the entire island, so you can imagine that there are lots of empty beaches. Now that the Moloka'i Ranch on the islands southwest corner has closed, it's even easier to find your own private stretch of sand. If you want to relax and do nothing in the sun, there are many places for this on Moloka'i, though you may have to hike to them. Obviously, beachs with close road access might not be quite so empty. Bring sunscreen, lunch and a good book for an afternoon of relaxation. Should you bring a bathing suit? I would, but you might not necessarily have to wear anything!

    Hawaiian "Warrior Signs"

by annk Updated Mar 12, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: These signs are present in all the Hawaiian Islands where there are designated historical or cultural sites unique to Hawaii. They are property of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.

We never would have found the "Temple of the Shrimp" heiau if it weren't for the sign posted by the road. The heiau itself was past a closed gate and at least 1/4 mile down a dirt road off to the side in dense vegetation.
