Favorite thing: After 10 trips to Hawaii, I only went inside Diamond Head Volcano. Picture is My Mother and Sister inside Diamond Head. You can enter through a tunnel. You can drive inside. Neat. Picture on topof page is Diamond Head from Plane.
A must is hiking up Diamond Head Crater . You want a fantastic view of Waikiki area and that crisp blue water , up is the direction in which you need to head .
Fondest memory: The amazing view from the top of the extinct volcano is breathtaking though the hike will have you dripping with sweat .
Get up early at sunrise and hike to the top of Diamond Head. The views are awesome....especially on a clear day. The hike will take you a half hour, but it is well worth it.
Fondest memory: Hiking up to the top of Diamond Head in the morning, hitting the beach and playing tennis in the afternoon, then catching the sunset on the deck of the Outrigger Canoe Club with Mai Tai in hand. A perfect day in the Islands!
You MUST climb Diamond Head. You get so much in a single trip. There's the geographical formation of the islands (Diamond Head is an extinct volcano crater); history (you have to climb through old military gun emplacements that were set up to protect the island during WWII); nature (the only way to get there is to walk and climb, which brings you closer to the natural wonders of the islands); and last but certainly not least, there's the view (you're rewarded at the top with a spectacular view of the south side of the island from the airport to Koko Head). It's a wonderful experience that will define your trip (and give you a little exercise to boot!).
Fondest memory: Besides just wandering around Waikiki in the evening, the thing I really miss when I'm away is a special treat at the North Shore. In Haleiwa there is a store called Matsumoto's that has the best shave ice on the island (at least that's MY opinion). I love getting a shave ice and then just walking around this quaint community. This is the most fun in the winter when you can combine it with a visit to some of the North Shore beaches to watch the 10' and 20' waves come in! What a sight!
The view from the top of Diamond Head is AMAZING!! Be prepared to walk, though. Take a big bottle of water and a camera. Once you get inside the crater it's so crowded, a backpack just gets in the way. Pack light.
Fondest memory: I miss the weather, and the laid-back attitude of the island.
I loved Diamonds Head, you climb to the top and look out over the city and the ocean and it is a most spectacular site!!
Fondest memory: I loved driving around on the mopeds in honolulu. I know that the natives probabl hated us but it was really lot of fun!
Favorite thing: Hike to the top of Diamondhead. It's not particularly easy, and believe it when you're told to bring water and a flashlight. But the view from the top is outstanding.
