Walking on the sand at Waikiki facing the sunset is magical. One can hear the many hotels live Hawaiian music softy caress your ears, while your eyes devour the beauty of the setting sun.
Many tourists and locals head for the beach and the sea to gaze at the colors played out on the clouds that the sun makes as it dips below the horizon. The many boats make for a glorious photo. Get on the sand at "Duke's" statue about one half hour before sunset and walk toward the sunset on the sand. You can walk the length of Waikiki during the sunset.
Dress Code: Make sure you wear sandals or barefeet, so that you can enjoy the surf on your sunset walk.
The highlight of this was being able to walk around in a warm tropical breeze without being bothered by anyone.... The beach front was decorated with real flame torches, especially outside the hotels and fancy restaurants, they had a free Hula Show which we watched, and you had the added bonus of watching the sun go down on the beach. You could walk all night long.... checking out the other people, hearing snatches of ukulele music, seeing the last surfers walk wearliy up the beach, go for that ice cream you had been saving yourself all day for...... heaven....
Dress Code: Wear what you like..... no restrictions here... just the way I like it.....
Just walking down the main boulevard at night. Lots of people - entertainers and weird stuff (but safe).
We liked going around and checking out the Happy Hour Places. We found a really old style pub somewhere in Waikiki....it had 50's music (wartime like) playing on this old jukebox, an ancient barmaid, the drinks were really cheap and they made us tuna sandwiches for snacks. It was like stepping back in time in this place....bamboo roof, kareoki.
Dress Code: none. Lots of restaurants do require you to be dressed nicely but lots don't either!
Start The night with viewing a sunset. Its the greatest thing you will ever see. Wait till the sun sinks in the sea and listen for it to sizzle and thats when the sky really gets colorfull.
Here the arrival in our Hotel in Honolulu, in the front of the swimming-pool, & just before leaving for a walk on the beach by night.
Great temperature, soft sand under the feet, life's so cool :)
