Beachwear & Sunscreen!: Less is More!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Keep it simple!

In all honesty, you will not need as much as you might think. Being a woman, and not a light packer, I brought way too much! You just need a bathing suit or two, a sarong, a few tank tops and shorts, and that's basically it! A change of fancier clothes for dinners is a good idea as well.

Lots of film and an underwater camera for snorkelling!

Beachwear & Sunscreen!: Less is better...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Bring luggage that can be spotted and easy for you to know which is yours..tie a string that will be distinct for you and no one else.

Make sure to bring sunscreen, beach shoes(beach tends to be rough), light clothing and a hat.

Bring some of the first aid kit necessity bandages, Neosporine, and aloe vera (great for cooling light sun burns).

Make sure you bring film it gets very expensive to buy there/ Remember everything is brought in from the mainland.

Bring sunscreen for both children and adults. Coppertone seems to work well for children but read all labels or ask a doctor before you leave which would be best for you.

Don't bring too much. What you don't have you can always rent such as boards or what not. The less you bring the easier your trip will be.

    Beachwear & Sunscreen!: Packing List
  • Tip Rating:
  • Take lots of swimsuits. It is not uncommon for people to be wearing their bikini tops shopping, walking around town, or even in some restuarants.

Beachwear & Sunscreen!: Beware the stinky people!
  • Tip Rating:
  • a small backpack is always good so you can tote around a towel and bathing suit at all times.

Don't forget the sunblock and sunglasses!

Ummm... a really strong DEODERANT/ANTIPERSPIRANT!!! Hawaii is A LOT more humid than most people are used to which can cause some kickin' B.O. (walk around downtown, you'll see...err, smell what I mean!) Don't be one of these stinky folks!

    Beachwear & Sunscreen!: Packing List
  • Tip Rating:
  • I took my small rolling bag and a beach bag. If you plan to bring home stuff for your friends and family, take an extra bag with you......we had a time getting everything home.

Pack light, you can always wash. Have 2 bathing suits and a cover up. Be sure to have a beach towel and sunscreen with you. I ALSO liked using the Maui Babe Tan Accelerator. (another tip from LanikaiBabe:) Just apply it over your sunscreen and really does work:) Casual is really in here.....there is not too much dressing up, but if you like fine dining, bring the appropriate wear as there are some nice places to dine:). A jacket or sweatshirt would have been nice for cool evenings. (and yes, with the tradewinds, it can be a little on the cool side! I forgot mine and will never make that mistake again) We also brought our own snorkle gear.....it wasn't expensive to rent it there, but we already owned our own stuff!

Bring shampoo! The Pacific is SALTY and I had to wash my hair 3 times to get all the salt out!!! Bring soap powder, dryer sheets and quarters with you in a lock top bag if you plan to wash! It's a lot cheaper than buying it at the hotel laundromat, and this way you have everything with you. Another thing that we have just from our camping excursions that I brought along is one of those fold up hampers that you can get from Walmart or Kmart. I love this thing! It can be folded up and kept in your suitcase. When you get to your hotel, just open it up and VOLIA(!), you have a hamper! They even have one that has 3 sections that you can sort your stuff, but we have the one that has one compartment. I have a thing about taking my stuff home clean. I just think that it simplifies the unpacking process and also for me, the blues of actually coming back home:(

35mm camera and video camera. Underwater camers if you want to take pictures in the ocean. Take plenty of film and cassettes to capture moments! I had my pictures developed at Long's Drugs in the Ala Moana Mall for $6.99 and I got double prints! That was cheaper than here in Maryland!!! I feel getting them developed there is a good thing so if something doesn't come out, you may have the chance to get another picture of it.

Beach towel, beach bag, sunscreen for sure.
